I brought back the 10 Minute Challenge for the New Year after a long hiatus. Just like I used to, I started giving myself 10 minute challenges. I set my timer for 10 minutes and tackle a household chore while my children are having a snack or lunch. It’s amazing how much you can accomplish in only 10 minutes when you focus on the task. The 10 minute challenge is a weekly feature on Mommies with Cents. Each week, I will show you one of the things I was able to accomplish in 10 minutes. I encourage you to join me- it really easy amazing what you are able to achieve, even if it’s incremental, if you set your mind (and timer!) to it!
I have been organizing my pantry but was really procrastinating finishing it up after my first 2 ten minute sessions. There was a lot of junk left including 3 small boxes that never really got unpacked when we moved in last. I put it off for a week and promised to have it finished by today. Guess what I was doing at 10:30 last night?
I wasn’t able to get a top to bottom picture so the top shelf and the floor can’t be seen in this photo. I mostly keep baking supplies on this side of the pantry. After the first 10 minutes, this is the progress I had made:
Doesn’t look like much. I moved a lot of things around to better organize them but I clearly still had a lot of work to do. I had hoped to get this done in 2 ten minute sessions back to back. 10 more minutes on the clock:
Ahhh! Progress! It’s starting to look a lot better. I had a ton of reusable shopping bags and plastic bags which I consolidated into two bags on the floor but I still had the dreaded boxes to go through. Another 10 minutes on the clock:
I took a square photo on accident but all shelves are organized. Once again, I’m sort of a no-frills kind of person so no pinterest worth pantry here and to many people this probably still looks a mess. My point here is to just keep it real and show you that sometimes it just takes a little bit of motivation to get started and that you can accomplish a lot in a short amount of time when you JUST DO IT. It took me 30 minutes to finish organizing this last set of shelves but do you know how good it felt when I was done? I FINALLY finished up what I started over a year ago! Ha, ha. I can’t believe I was able to ignore those boxes for that long! Most of the stuff went in the trash but I did find these little treasures 🙂
I also spent another 20 minutes or so sweeping and scrubbing the floor by hand. If it wasn’t so late, I would have moved onto something else that needed cleaning. Once I get going, I don’t want to stop. It just takes a huge effort to get me off by booty in the first place!
I’d love to hear ways you manage your time at home with kids. Please share your tips with me and our other readers by leaving a comment, then come back next week for another 10 minute challenge!
