Review & Giveaway: Between Me & You Keepsake Journals

by holly on September 29, 2008

**This Giveaway is now closed. Please check back on Mondays when we start a new giveaway each week. Thanks!**
Looking for a unique gift idea for the holidays? Look no further! Sand Dune Publishing Company has come out with a line of keepsake journals to give to the special people in your life.

Each journal is hard covered and spiral bound. It measures 6.5″ x 7.25″ and contains 35-45 questions for your loved one to answer. It is currently available in 8 different formats- Mom, Dad, Grandma, Grandpa, Brother, Sister, Daughter, Son, Family Reunion, Girl and Honey. The cover of each journal looks like the one to the left, each in a different color. The books retail for $14.95 plus shipping.

The idea is to give the book to the person of your choice and have them fill out the answers to the questions. I think this is an especially neat idea for kids to give to their grandparents to help them better understand who they are. What a great keepsake it would become! A hand written journal with answers to questions such as “What were some of your favorite things to do as a child?” and “What are your memories of the day you and Grandfather were married?”

I received the Mom book to review and got a chance to see what an entire book looks like. All of the questions are simple and fun to answer. There is adequate space for each response and a section in the back titled “other stuff” with several blank pages for any additional thoughts. In the mom book, my favorite chapter was “What about Me?” where it asked questions such as “What do you remember most about the time you were pregnant with me?” and “What characteristics do you and I share now?”

I think this type of journal is a great idea and would be fun for a lot of people. I also think that it might be fun in reverse! Instead of giving the journal to a love one to fill out for yourself, it would be neat to fill one out for your loved one and giving it to them as a gift.

To find out more about Between Me and You journals, visit http://www.sanddunebooks.com/.

I would love the grandma one, so my kids could have something about my mom, and they have a family reunion one that would be wonderful. Letting everyone in the family participate would be a real treasure.

This is a really cute idea, and something I would defiitely be interested in. I love the Mom journal, and the Honey journal. Shortly after having my son, and friend of mine told me to start keeping a journal, to give to my son when he got older. Well, I never did, and I regret it. Having this journal would be perfect. It would help me remember things that I may have forgotten. The Honey journal is also very cute. Sometimes I forget to show my husband as much love as I show my baby son. This journal would also be something nice to read, many years from now, when we are much older. Cute ideas!

What a wonderful opportunity for kids to have a momento from a loved one like their mom or grandma. I especially love the Grandma one so that the kids would have those books as mementos to remember their Grandmas by.

I would definitely get the brother & mom ones. Those are the two relationships I would love to work on the most in my life, and become closer to those two. I love the idea of having a journal solely between you and another person. Great idea!

Anonymous September 30, 2008 at 4:51 am

I think these are awesome. I think it is great for creating and keeping bonds between people. It allows people to express their feelings and it’s a great heirloom that can be looked at throughout the years. I’d like the mother and daughter ones.

Family Reunion looks important and comprehensive.

BusyMom September 30, 2008 at 10:18 am

I actually think I would like two of the brother ones. We gave all of our parents a similar book for recording their history, memories, pictures. I think it would be fun to learn more about my brothers and to pass that information on to my children.

Sharon Harmon September 30, 2008 at 2:13 pm

I would choose ‘Daughter’ and ‘Brother’. I really like the journals because they have a sturdy hard cover that can withstand tears and tumbles; and the spiral binding makes it easy to flip through pages as you speedily write your dreams and thoughts!!! Thank you for the contest!

I would love two Reunion ones, so that both sides of the family can experience the journaling, and have it for years to come!

Thank you for this opportunity!

My Precious Pennies September 30, 2008 at 10:15 pm

I would love the Mom and Honey journals. I think it’s a great way for you to bond with someone over distance. I can send it to them, and then they can send it back!

The Lady Riposter September 30, 2008 at 10:22 pm

It’s a tough choice. I’d love to give them to my mother and father but my father would laugh. I think my best bet would be to choose the Grandma and Grandpa books and give them to my parents when I become pregnant, as a present for them to give my child when it is born.

Jenny October 1, 2008 at 1:39 am

I love that the questions are casual, but also revealing. I feel I could answer them without getting uncomfortable. If I had two of the brother ones, I would try to work up the nerve to give them to my brothers. They are 15 and 17 years older than me, so we didn’t grow up together and I don’t know them as well as I’d like.
