Day 14: A Valentine Craft

by holly on February 8, 2009

My 1 year old son made this adorable panda puppet at our library’s story hour.  As you can see, many pieces of this panda puppet are heart shapes of various sizes.  If you have heart shaped cookie cutters you can use those to trace onto construction paper.  If you don’t have cookie cutters you can cut out hearts the “old fashioned” way by folding a piece of paper in half and cutting a half of a heart shape along the fold to make a full symmetrical heart shape.  Use this picture as your guide to cut out and assemble the pieces. If you have a toddler, just cut the pieces out beforehand and have them help you glue it together with a glue stick.

It’s a little hard to see but the mouth is a white heart with a slightly smaller red heart attached to it.  We actually glued ours on upside down.  It should go the other way according to the sample we followed but I think it still looks cute.
The only items you need for this project are:
  • a glue stick
  • a paper lunch sack
  • scissors
  • black and red construction paper
  • white paper
  • heart shaped cookie cutters in various sizes (optional)
