Review & Giveaway: HABA Discovery Blocks

by holly on March 27, 2009

I recently had the opportunity to try some Discovery Blocks (pictured left) by HABA.  They are so much cooler in person. The 6 cubes are about 2″ squared, brightly colored wooden blocks. Each one has something in the middle for children to discover.

When I received these and opened them up my son who is almost two was so excited.  We sat down together to check them out. There are two blocks that you can hold up to your eye for different visual effects.  One makes everything yellow and the other one gives a kaleidoscope effect.  I had a lot of fun trying to show him how to close one eye and look through the block with the other.  He thought it was really funny.  I love how brightly colored and vibrant these blocks are.  My son is still learning his colors and these make a fun learning tool.
I also got to test out one of HABA’s newest products-a Little Sheep Jumbo Threading Beads kit.  The kit comes with a wooden threader, a cord and 9 wooden beads.  I really love this toy for several reasons. Before my children were born, I made a lot of beaded jewelry so I love that I can show my kids how to do something that I enjoy doing.  It’s made for little hands so the beads are large and have big openings to thread the cord through.  Stringing beads helps develop hand-eye coordination and concentration.   The recommended age on this toy is 3+.  It comes in a cute moon shaped zippered pouch that is perfect for gift giving.  It also ensures that pieces aren’t lost!
HABA is an environmentally friendly international company that makes fabulous toys. I encourage you to learn more about it and check out the thousands of toys they make by visiting www.habausa.com
You can find a large selection available for purchase at Maukilo.com.
