Review & Giveaway: Kernel Season’s Popcorn

by holly on May 25, 2009

Popcorn is one of the coolest foods on the planet. I love popcorn. When I was little, our family had a special bowl just for the fluffy stuff- a giant yellow Tupperware bowl we dubbed “The Popcorn Bowl” (creative, I know). I remember my mom popping big batches and sprinkling different toppings over invisible sections- parmesean cheese, ranch, seasoning salt, cinnamon & sugar, salt & pepper. I loved it when my mom made this special treat so when Kernel Seasons sent me a package of goodies to try out, you can imagine my delight. Not only did they send popcorn- both the kernels and microwave type, they also sent Movie Theater Butter oil for popping & topping, Popcorn Spritzer and 5 different flavors of popcorn seasoning. I was in popcorn heaven!
My hubby has a few select specialties in the kitchen and stovetop popcorn is one of them. I put him to work as soon as the kids were in bed and we had a popcorn feast! We tried ranch, kettle corn, butter, nacho cheese and white cheddar. I loved them all but the cheese flavors are my favorite.
When dear hubby wasn’t around to pop me a bowl I tried the microwave variety. It is already butter flavored but I can’t resist the seasoned toppings so I poured it in a bowl, sprayed it with the Popcorn Spritzer, added my toppings and I was a happy camper.
The Popcorn Spritzer is awesome because not only does it help make the seasoning stick but it is also contains zero fat per serving and has a retail price of only $2.79!  Kernel Season’s popcorn seasonings are available in white cheddar, nacho cheese, ranch, butter, kettle corn, parmesan cheese, sour cream and onion, jalapeno, salt, and caramel.
Here are some fun facts about popcorn:
  • One cup of kernels can make 40 cups of popped corn
  • popped popcorn contains only 24 calories per cup
  • popcorn can pop as high as three feet!
  • American pilgrims ate popcorn like cereal with milk
  • According to the U.S. Popcorn Board (who knew there was such a thing?), the U.S. produces nearly 500,ooo pounds of popcorn per year

Popcorn is a healthy inexpensive snack but it also has plenty of other uses.  Check back later this week for fun popcorn recipes and projects!

Kernel Season’s products may be purchased for home use at more than 18,000 grocery stores across America including Wal-Mart, Target, K Mart, Blockbuster Video, Safeway and Food Lion or online at www.NoMoreNakedPopcorn.com.

I used to love popcorn but I stopped eating it for years. Now I eat it at least once a week! I think it’s one of my husband’s favorite foods too.

We grew up poor, so popcorn was our staple snack and we savored it!! Mom used to melt butter and we would drizzle it all over the top!! To this day, popcorn is one of my favorite snacks and I always have it in the house!
