10 Minute Challenge: Clothes- Again!

I’ve started giving myself 10 minute challenges. I set my timer for 10 minutes and tackle a household chore while my children are having a snack or lunch. It’s amazing how much you can accomplish in only 10 minutes when you focus on the task. The 10 minute challenge is a weekly feature on Mommies with Cents. Each week, I will show you one of the things I was able to accomplish in 10 minutes. I encourage you to join me- it really easy amazing what you are able to achieve, even if it’s incremental, if you set your mind (and timer!) to it!

Some people have a hard time keeping up with laundry. Even with five of us, that’s something I’m able to pretty much stay on top of. The part I have trouble with is updating the kids closets and dressers by removing the stuff they’ve outgrown. I have the hardest time with the girls since they share a room and I have to locate the bag of clothes that were McKinley’s that Parker is growing into. On top of that, McKinley loves to empty her drawers when she is supposed to be napping which makes everything an unfolded jumbled up mess.

The girls got a bunch of new clothes for Christmas so before I put them away, I figured I better tackle the drawers problem. I didn’t actually take a picture of the inside of the dresser drawers but believe me, they were stuffed with a mixture of baby clothes and toddler clothes both current and outgrown. Their room was a bit messy too. This is what it looked like before I started:

Amazingly, I was able to clean up the little mess, fill a bag with outgrown clothing and fold the rest back up and put it back in the dresser in 10 minutes. As usual, this project had been nagging in the back of my mind for awhile and didn’t get done until I put it on my list. Now I just need to put away the Christmas decorations…somehow I think that task will take longer than 10 minutes ;)

Ratuki Card Game Review

Ratuki (pronounced ra-too-kee) is a fast paced card game where it’s always everyone’s turn. It’s quick to learn, easy to play and highly addicting! Each player (up to 5) starts with their own deck of 35 cards which contain the numbers one through five represented by various number symbols, roman numerals and English/Spanish words. Players race against each other to put their cards in ascending and descending sequential order on shared piles. When a player plays a five card, they shout “Ratuki” and claim that pile of cards. When a player has played all of their cards, game play stops and scoring begins. The first player to 100 wins.

Designed for ages 8 and up, Ratuki is described as “Intergenerational” which loosely translates to “fun for everyone!” Ratuki comes with 5 decks of cards and instructions. It retails for around $10.

I come from a family of card playing fools. We love card games! I like how quickly this one is to learn to play. You can introduce it to your friends and family and start playing without lengthily directions. Our kids aren’t old enough to play yet but that won’t stop my husband and I from some friendly competition!

Top Ten Baby Products of 2010

Babycheapsake polled facebook fans on their favorite baby products of 2010 and came up with a great list. Many of them I have myself and completely agree. I thought this list might be helpful to new or expecting moms. Thanks to Angie for conducting this poll!

As you can see from the picture, my first daughter loved to SLEEP in our Jumperoo. It never failed- she always bounced herself right to sleep. In another month or so we’ll be using it for our third child plus it was loaned out to a friend so it’s on it’s 4th baby and still pretty much looks new. I’d say we’ve gotten our money’s worth out of it!

Our other faves from the list above are:

The muslin swaddle wraps- I love the large size of these. They are very light weight yet warm at the same time. They are also breathable and perfect for use as a nursing cover. I’ve given these as gifts and the recipients always love them as much as I do.
Woombie- Haven’t used this particular brand but TrueWomb is similar and I loved it (so did baby!)
Miracle Blanket- this works really well if your baby tends to be able to “break out” of it’s swaddle. It’s a little harder to use that TrueWomb and other velcro style swaddlers though.
Breast Pump- if you stay home and don’t need to pump much like me, I suggest the Avent manual pump. No need to spend a lot of money on an electric unless you’ll be using it more. Again, still working well on the third go-round.
Baby Monitor- we used the Sony BabyCall and I loved it until I lost the hand set. Till this day I have no idea where it could possibly be and I miss it! I’ve never used a video monitor so I can’t speak for those.

VTech V.Reader Gift Card Review & Giveaway

I reviewed the VTech V.Reader a few months ago and I can not express how much my kids love this! Santa brought my daughter the Shrek game and she plays it for hours everyday. Literally- hours!
