Today’s Tip from The Green Year: 365 Small Things You Can Do to Make a Big Difference: Try the 100-mile diet.
On average, the ingredients you use to make your favorite meal travel 1,500 miles before they reach your plate. The abundance of fresh fruits and veggies available in the summer makes it the perfect time to try the 100-mile diet — eating foods that were grown within 100 miles of your home. You can try it for a single meal, and entire day, or longer. In the process, you’ll learn more about local food sources and which foods are in season Who knows, you might even discover a new favorite vegetable! Still, if you’re crafty I’m sure you can figure out how to turn your old Backstreet Boys CDs into closet dividers to make this project “green”
