Since 1907 the family owned Nielson-Massey Vanillas company has been creating the world’s finest vanillas. Today it is run by the third generation of Nielsens who have spent their entire lives researching the best methods to create pure flavors and how to use them to get the best results in recipes. Some of their offerings include:
PURE LEMON EXTRACT — This extract is extremely versatile. It’s great with meat dishes like fish, pork and chicken and blends well with a variety of herbs. Use it to add a dash of citrus to jams, pastries, beverages, cakes, vegetables and more. You can also use it in place of fresh lemon juice and lemon zest
- ½ tsp. Lemon Extract = 1 Tbs. Fresh Lemon Juice.
- 1 tsp. Lemon Extract = 1 tsp. Lemon Zest
PURE ORANGE EXTRACT — This extract makes a perfect pairing with flavors like strawberry, pineapple, chocolate and more. It’s great for jams, salad dressings, ice cream, cookies, fruit pies and more. It can also be used to enhance rice, chicken and fish. Use it in place of fresh orange juice and orange zest.
- ½ tsp. Orange Extract = 2 Tbs. Fresh Orange Juice
- 1 tsp. Orange Extract = 1 tsp. Orange Zest
MADAGASCAR BOURBON PURE VANILLA EXTRACT — One of the most popular and versatile extracts, this vanilla is a great “all purpose” extract. It’s made from hand selected beans from the Bourbon island of Madagascar and made using a cold extraction process which draws out and preserves the vanilla’s over 300 flavor compounds. The sweet, creamy flavor is great for baking. One tablespoon of vanilla extract is equal to one whole vanilla bean.
All of these extracts are Kosher and Gluten-Free Certified as well as All-Natural and Allergen-Free. The Lemon and Orange extracts are available in 2 and 4 ounce bottles while the vanilla is also available in 8 and 32 ounce bottles. I sampled the products in frosting with delicious results!
FUNFETTI COOKIES WITH ORANGE & LEMON BUTTERCREAM FROSTING
1 box of Funfetti cake mix (need eggs & oil)
1 box of cream cheese
1 stick of butter
1 box of powdered sugar
small amount of milk
Nielsen-Massey Extracts
DIRECTIONS
- Bake cookies according to the directions on the side of a box of Funfetti cake mix.
- Cream together softened butter and cream cheese
- Alternate adding powdered sugar and 1 tsp milk at a time until desired consistency
- Divide and add one 1 tsp extract to each batch — I made orange and lemon.
You can either add frosting to the top of the cookies or make sandwiches by frosting the bottom and putting two together. Add sprinkles for a more fun and festive treat! I love the citrus flavors that the Nielsen-Massey extracts added to the frosting. Next time I think I’ll add a little vanilla to the orange for a creamsicle type flavor. Yum!
