I’ve been reading to my kids more than usual. It’s easier now that my two year old will actually sit still and listen to a story. Last night we broke out our first Christmas book of the season, a new addition to our collection. [amazon_link id=”1402270852″ target=”_blank” ]A Bit of Applause for Mrs. Claus[/amazon_link] by Susie Schick Pierce, Jeannie Schick-Jacobowitz and Muffin Drake is a nod to moms and the work they put in to make the holidays memorable for their families. When Santa Claus gets the flu on Christmas Eve, Mrs. Claus must scramble to finish wrapping the presents, trim the trees and decorate the cookies. Will she be able to do it all in the nick of time and save Christmas?
My kids especially loved the beautiful watercolor illustrations by Wendy Wallin Malinow. Most notable was Mrs. Claus’s snowy hair pinned up with Christmas ornaments! There are lots of other fun details making the book interesting enough for non-readers. In fact, my daughters argued over which one of them got to take the book to bed with them. This storybook gives children a different perspective and opens their eyes to the effort put into the holiday other than by Santa. This short and easy story is bound to become a Christmas classic. It retails for around $12.
