There’s something about holiday movies that really make you reflect on what family really means to you. The Heart of Christmas was no exception. In fact, there was one particular part of this movie that really hit home for me. Though it wasn’t a main part of the storyline there was a mom who worked from home and was so busy she forgot that it was Halloween and really let her kids down. When she hears the story of about a family in her town who is trying to make the best of a very hard situation (celebrating the last Christmas with their terminally ill child) she starts to realize that there are more important things in life and to make her family a priority. I’ve got three small children myself and I work from home which is difficult to say the least. I hear myself telling my kids that I don’t have time for them because I am working and hate the way it sounds. This movie reminded my that life will go on if I take breaks to read them a book or snuggle with them for a few minutes. Sometimes (daily!) I need those reminders!
The Heart of Christmas is a heart warming holiday movie of hope and compassion based on a true story. When Austin and Julie Locke learn that their young son Dax is suffering from terminal cancer and won’t live to see Christmas, the grief stricken parents decide to celebrate in October so they can enjoy the holiday together one last time. As they put their decorations up, word spreads throughout the community and friends and neighbors come together to give the family a memorable gift. This touching drama will put life’s little problems into perspective and allow you to appreciate the little things in life.
The Heart of Christmas is a great film to add to your favorite holiday movie collection. It teaches valuable lessons about life, faith and community and features popular singer/songwriter Matthew West, whose title song received Emmy nomination.
