Do you know what questions to ask when you take your car in for an oil change? MOM (Motor Oil Matters) has provided this checklist to help you on your next visit.

Summer is a busy time for travel. AAA estimates that between Memorial Day and Labor Day, they will aid over 8 million motorists. Auto maintenance, including using quality motor oil,  is important to avoid travel breakdowns.   Motor Oil Maters, or MOM, is a consumer education and industry watchdog program by the American Petroleum Institute that was established to educate the importances of quality licensed motor oils and call out companies that use deceptive practices.  Keep an eye out for those that offer discounted services to reduce automotive maintenance costs.  Cheaper isn’t always better!

Here are a few key things from the checklist:

  • Make sure you get the correct viscosity oil for your vehicle
  • Make sure your oil change includes a fresh filter
  • Use an API licensed motor oil
  • Change your oil at the recommended intervals
  • Take the guess work out and play it safe by going to a MOM licensed installer!

It’s wise to take good care of your vehicle.  It will last longer and be less likely to have a breakdown.  Be sure to check back next week to enter to win a $50 gift card to use on your next oil change!
