Unfortunately, I’m about the most indecisive shopper alive and since I had a limited amount of time before the store closed, I was feeling the pressure! Burlington is pretty large and I wasn’t very confined on how to spend the $100 gift card I was provided with. My task was to “shop for holiday clothing or outerwear”.
A recent study by Burlington, a national off-price retailer found that a woman’s outfit affects their confidence. Style is everything! How a woman feels in her clothing is more important than how other perceive them according to 85% of the 1000 women polled. I tend to agree. 69% of those surveyed also said that feeling stylish makes them “feel confident that they can take on anything”.
I work from home so for the most part, I can get away with super casual attire but it’s the days that I put more effort into my style and getting dressed for the day that I get more accomplished, feel better about myself and have a better overall attitude. So, if you needed an excuse to go shopping, there it is. Need another? At Burlington you’ll get name brand merchandise for a lot less than you would pay at a department store — time to go shopping!
I’ve started wearing dresses more this year but they still aren’t completely in my comfort zone. I saw this sweater dress and thought I’d give it a try. It looked warm, I could wear it with leggings and boots and I figured I could change it up with a scarf and/or belt. I tried it on and it was cute but I was having second thoughts. Did the scarf and dress textures clash? Can I pull off red? On this, I might need to consult my stylist.
And then I saw jackets. Rows and rows of jackets. Super cute ones at excellent prices. These ones look trendy and I almost went for a grey one with a unique interchangeable collar for only $20. But my indecisiveness kicked in and I glimpsed THIS jacket, perfect for the holidays!:
Adorable, right? And I love the color! Hmm…but maybe I should look at sweaters. I love sweaters.
So a sweater it was. I really love this black sweater. It has tiny, sparkly black sequins sewn onto it that glitter subtly when the light hits them. It has a sort of cowl neck style and no sleeves — what do they call these? Capes? It just drapes over the arms making it a very flattering and comfortable piece. Yet stylish!
And then there were shoes. Shoes make an outfit, right? I’ve been wanting to get some black boots and these tall boots with a buckle were right up my alley and over half off retail too! I try to avoid anything with a heel but figured I could manage the low heel of this style. The back part of these boots is stretchy and unlike most knee-high boots, there is no zipper. Surprisingly, they were still pretty easy to get on and they completed my “holiday” look. Much to my hubby’s dismay, but in keeping with the survey results, I stayed with my comfort color (black) for my outfit because it makes me feel stylish and therefore more confident.
I had so much fun shopping at Burlington and browsing their aisles. I can’t wait to go back when I have more time because their home decor and kids clothing sections were calling my name! I believe some after Christmas shopping is in order.
