We finally started going to church last summer after my kids attended vacation bible school. They really love sunday school too! For Christmas I wanted to get each of my kids a bible or book of bible stories. For my six year old I found the [amazon_link id=”0781444993″ target=”_blank” ]Action Bible[/amazon_link] which is a really neat comic book style book. My youngest got a board book of bible stories but I couldn’t find the perfect book for my five year old daughter. God’s Little Princess Bedtime Devotional was just released and while it didn’t make it under the tree, it’s just what I was looking for!
Sheila Walsh, renowned bible teacher created this inspiring collection of over 100 daily devotions that are perfect for bedtime. The book itself is beautiful. It has a picture of a princess in pjs with lots of glitter and the crown feature real rhinestones. It has a pretty pink ribbon bookmark attached so we can always keep our place. The book doesn’t have to be read in order. If there’s a specific topic that is relevant such as bullying, forgiveness or cleaning up you can use the index to find the pages that are relevant. Each set of pages (left and right side) feature a little story or lesson, a small activity or discussion and a short prayer. We usually do 2 per night and my 6 year old son often joins us before we read a chapter or two from his Action Bible. My kids look forward to this special time spent together each night and I love the lessons they are learning as we snuggle and read together.
The activities are fun and thoughtful. For example, one of them is making shadow puppets on the wall. It asks if you can make a bunny, dog or bird and talks about how the shadows change as you move. It ends with “Shadows may change all the time — but God never does!”
Sheila says “Some of the most beautiful and profound conversations with our children seem to happen at bedtime, when noises are away and hearts are open”
