It doesn’t have to be summer for me to crave ice cream. Any excuse will do. Sometimes we dress ours up as a banana split. Sometimes we just eat it straight from the carton. Ice cream cake is also a favorite but that’s where the creativity ends. Scooped: Ice Cream Treats, Cheats, and Frozen Eats from Southern Living offers a great mix of favorite recipes and new ideas for ice cream and ice cream desserts. The Ice Cream Shoppe chapter features from-scratch ice cream recipes while the To Sprinkle and Hold chapter features homemade syrups, toppings, cones and stir-ins. Don’t worry if you don’t have a lot of time though because there are also plenty of ideas and recipes that can be made using store-bought ice cream.
Many of the recipes are wow-worthy yet easy enough to make for a party or an at-home dinner date dessert. One of the recipes that caught my eye was Meringue Nest with Ice Cream and Raspberries. In this particular recipe you can use store bought ice cream while making the edible”nest” for presentation and yummy topping from scratch. The recipes are easy to follow and many include “the scoop”, a special tip for that specific recipes.
I can’t even begin to describe all of the delectable mouthwatering recipes found in Scooped but you’ll be happy to know that this book is fully illustrated so you can see exactly how the final product should look. Wouldn’t this be a fun gift when tied with a pretty bow and an ice cream scoop? It sells for around $15.
A complimentary product/service was provided for this review, however, all opinions expressed are my own. I was not compensated in any other way. See Mommies With Cents disclosure policy for more details.
