Last week I was invited to Safeway headquarters to learn more about their brand new savings program, Just for U.  I was blown away. First, I have a confession to make.  I rarely use coupons.  Like many of us, time is a huge factor and couponing was one thing I gave up in order to keep up with other areas of my life.  I still use the occasional coupon but I don’t clip them every week or carry a binder of them with me to the store like I used to.  I still shop sales, check out ads and try to save money where I can. The Safeway Just for U program is designed for people just like me!  If you want to save money on your grocery bill whether you are an avid couponer or not, this program is great for YOU too!

Like most store programs, the Safeway Just for U program is linked to your Club Savings Card.  The first thing you are going to want to do is make sure your info is current because sales are geo-targeted.  They are also based on your personal shopping patterns so you’ll want to make sure you are the only one using your phone number linked to your card.  You can update your info by calling the Call Center at 1-877-SAFEWAY (1-877-723-3929).

If you have an iPhone or Android you might also want to download the Safeway app.

The Just for U program is personalized to save you money on the items you use.  It gives you offers based on your shopping history over the past six months.  For example, if you buy cereal, you’ll probably see a special price on a cereal item in your personalized deals section.  If you don’t have pets, you won’t see pet deals.  Don’t have a baby?  You won’t see deals on diapers or baby food so you won’t have to wade through a mess of coupons or offers that don’t apply to your family.

Did you know that sales circulars only show a portion of the store’s actual sales?  The Just for U program is a single savings tool that shows you everything on sale in the store if you’ve purchased it within the last 6 months.  At any given time there are over 30 million unique item offers but you’ll only see the ones that apply to you.

There are three categories of savings in the Just for U program:

Coupon Center — In the coupon center you’ll find a selection of coupons that can be “clipped” and added to your Club Card.  These coupons are available to everyone and sorted by your shopping history so that you’ll see the items you use at the top of the page.  They can also be sorted by category or by “about to expire”.

Personalized Deals —  These deals are specific to YOU based on your past shopping history.  Personalized deals are month long offers so you’ll have plenty of time to take advantage of them.

Your Club Specials — This section shows you EVERYTHING in the store that is on sale if you’ve purchased it in the past.  You can used this tool to help create your shopping list.  Just click “add to list” next to the item to add it to your shopping list.  Your Club Specials usually follow your stores sales weekly sales ad so if your ad comes out on a Wednesday, they’d be good Wednesday through Tuesday (one week).

You can print or email your savings list but I personally love the list app feature.  You can make your list directly from your phone or online (it will automatically sync to your phone).  All family members using the same Club Card can run the app and they will all be synced.  That means you can ask the Hubs to stop and pick up some items on your list and he’ll already have it handy!  Once he crosses the items off the list, it will update your list as well.

Do you use Safeway Home Delivery Service?  Good news!  You can use the Safeway Just for U program too!

While I think this program is excellent for those who aren’t experienced coupon clippers, I believe that coupon pros can also take advantage of this awesome program.  Here are some things you should know:

• Digital Coupons do not double
• You can only use one coupon per item whether it’s paper or digital — the good news is, the system is set up to always give you the best deal at point of sale so if you hand over your coupons and you had a better one saved to your card, the paper coupon will be returned to you for later use.
• Personalized Deals and Coupons can be combined
• Other digital coupons such as Cellfire cannot be stacked.  The Just for U program pulls in these offers and others such as eSaver to simplify your shopping.

Right now you can add a dozen free eggs to your card when you sign up for the Just for U program!  There’s a lot of info here but I assure you the Just for U program is amazingly easy to use.  In fact, I saved 47% the first time I tried it!  Give it a try for yourself.  I truly believe you’ll love it as much as I do!  Visit Safeway.com to learn more.  Also, please feel free to ask me any questions you may have and I will do my best to get you the answers!
