There’s been a lot of hype lately about pressure cookers and how great they are. I’ve been curious so when I got the opportunity to try a BESTEK pressure cooker in exchange for my opinion, I was all over it. When it arrived I took at look at the included recipe book and decided to try the Mac & Cheese. It seemed simple enough and I knew it was a dish my entire family would enjoy. Right away I was frustrated because the recipe book set to set the pressure cooker on “high” for 4 minutes. There are a lot of preset buttons for cooking very specific items like rice, beans, chicken and soup but no buttons for setting the pressure cooker on high or low. There isn’t a pasta button so I went with “multigrain”. I couldn’t tell if it was cooking and I wasn’t sure how long it really needed to cook since 4 minutes seemed really short to me. I had to keep opening it to check the progress. Even though I sort of fumbled my way through it, I ended up with a great tasting macaroni and cheese.
Aside from my issues with the controls, this pressure cooker seems well made. It has a large 6.3 qt stainless steel inner pot so it’s big enough to cook a meal for my family of 5. It was easy to clean up too. It has 11 smart built-in programs for making different meals. There are safety mechanisms in place so the lid has to be locked into place and the steam release on the correct setting for it to work.
Honestly, maybe it’s just me — I don’t have experience with using a pressure cooker but I thought it would be pretty self explanatory. I made the mac and cheese 3 times and each time it came out fine but I still felt like I was still guessing and unsure of the settings and cooking time. I wish the directions from the cookbook matched up with the controls on the pressure cooker.
Look how much room is in this pot though! This is one pound of macaroni noodles made into a delicious mac & cheese with a few simple ingredients. With the pressure cooker I can have this meal on the table in less than 30 minutes. It will be great for making meals for the family as well as larger portions for parties.
