Did you resolve to eat healthier in the new year? How’s that going for you? While our intentions are always good, moms have a tendency to always put others before themselves. They get so busy taking care of their family, they may even forget to stop and make themselves a meal. Many turn to easy-to-grab junk food. Having healthy snacks on hand can help give moms quick and good-for-them options to get them through the day without an empty stomach or a belly full of junk. ThinSlim Foods are a good choice. All of their products are sugar free, low calorie and low carb making them suitable or nearly all diets. ThinSlim offers muffins, brownies and bagels, all 50 calories or less. Available in a variety of flavors, ThinSlim products come with a taste guarantee. Since they do not contain any preservatives, the shelf life is limited but the products can be frozen to extend it. Squares and brownies are sold individually for $2.75 while the muffins are sold in a 4 pack for $7.97.
I got the opportunity to sample some of these products and was pleasantly surprised. My husband has been getting after me for not eating but I always forget in the morning then get busy doing other things. At lunch I take care of my kids, clean up and am always anxious to get back to work during naps that I either forget again or grab something that probably isn’t very good for me. I loved how easy these snacks were to just grab and go. They were perfect for breakfast. The Banana Squares were awesome — nice and moist with a sweet flavor and only a very slightly “different” texture. I wouldn’t call it “gritty” and it’s hard to explain but it was almost as if the “sugar” (in this case Erythiritol) wasn’t completely dissolved. Still, I really liked these bars and could eat them everyday. I was a little less impressed with the muffins. They weren’t nearly as moist and were slightly less sweet than the Banana Squares, but still more than edible. The Squares were more like a treat while the muffins tasted more like what they are — a healthy snack.

While the Peanut Butter Crunch Candy ice cream was good, especially if you like Butterfinger candy bars, it didn’t compare to my all-time fave ice cream — the Monkeying Around Banana Ice Cream also from Schwan’s. If you haven’t tried Schwan’s, check them out! I don’t think you’ll be disappointed!

Dinner time is a three ring circus at our house. Anything that can make it easier for me is a blessing. I’ve heard some parents describe this time of day as the “witching hour” so I know I am not alone. It seems the kids all have a melt down every night when I’m trying to get dinner on the table. The baby is crying and the other two won’t stop fighting, nagging me for a snack or crying about one thing or another. They’re tired and hungry and impatient! Just recently, my little blessing came as Barilla Three Cheese Tortellini. I was able to get dinner on the table without pulling my hair out in the process. I love dinners that I can get started and do a couple of chores in between. Boiling the Tortellini allows me to put a basket of laundry away. One night I used a jarred red sauce mixed in with the pasta. Another less hectic night I made a white sauce from scratch. Both times, the kids actually enjoyed dinner and I didn’t hear any complaints. Another blessing!
