“Okamidenis a picturesque action adventure game for the Nintendo DS, compatible with the new Nintendo 3DS unit or the Nintendo DS family of hand‐held systems. In Okamiden, Japanese mythology and artistic action come to life as players “paint” their way through the adventure. Utilizing a new partner system, a wolf pup named Chibiterasu joins forces with partner characters to restore color to the world in this heartwarming game. Players use the DS stylus, to wield a celestial paintbrush to attack enemies, solve Zelda‐like puzzles, paint helpful objects into life and perform feats that will change the world before players’ eyes. Beyond the battles, Chibiterasu and buddies will come to realize their inner potential and accept the kinship that comes with being the children of great heroes and gods.”
I let my 8 & 9 year old nephews test out this game. These guys don’t go anywhere without their DS so I knew they’d be happy to give it a whirl and share with me their views on the game. They gave Okamiden two thumbs up but did say that it couldn’t compare to their all-time fave, Pokemon. Still, the game held their attention for hours and they showed me some of the cool tasks that had to be completed using the stylus. Seriously, I’m going to have to borrow the game back from them because it looks fun! One downside to the game that they mentioned was that they couldn’t both play their own games it as it didn’t have the capacity to save more than one player’s game.
Capcom’s Okamiden is available now for the Nintendo DS and compatible with the DSi and 3DS.
We are giving away a prize a copy of the game.

Ratuki (pronounced ra-too-kee) is a fast paced card game where it’s always everyone’s turn. It’s quick to learn, easy to play and highly addicting! Each player (up to 5) starts with their own deck of 35 cards which contain the numbers one through five represented by various number symbols, roman numerals and English/Spanish words. Players race against each other to put their cards in ascending and descending sequential order on shared piles. When a player plays a five card, they shout “Ratuki” and claim that pile of cards. When a player has played all of their cards, game play stops and scoring begins. The first player to 100 wins.
Designed for ages 8 and up, Ratuki is described as “Intergenerational” which loosely translates to “fun for everyone!” Ratuki comes with 5 decks of cards and instructions. It retails for around $10.
I come from a family of card playing fools. We love card games! I like how quickly this one is to learn to play. You can introduce it to your friends and family and start playing without lengthily directions. Our kids aren’t old enough to play yet but that won’t stop my husband and I from some friendly competition!

In celebration of Monopoly’s 75 anniversary, the game has been recreated in an interactive 3D video game called Monopoly Streets. The classic game of building a real estate empire comes alive as you challenge other players worldwide in online play, or friends and family right in your own living room. From the slums of Mediterranean Avenue to the glitz and glam of Park Place and Boardwalk, you can explore the neighborhood as you acquire new properties and stay in luxurious mansions or broken down huts. In Monopoly Streets you’ll be able to set house rules, choose from different game boards and discover new twists in Monopoly City and Monument City. Will you be the next millionaire or will your empire fall into bankruptcy? Test your skills with Monopoly Streets. The game is available in Nintendo Wii, Nintendo DS, Xbox 360 and PS3 formats for under $40.
Monopoly is one of my all time favorite games. A neighborhood friend and myself used to have marathon sessions of Monopoly that would continue on for weeks. I love that you can set house rules even in the video game version! I also love that there is an online play option since my husband isn’t as big of a Monopoly fan as I am and my kids are too little to play. It’s more fun to play against a real person rather than the computer.
Monopoly is a classic that has been around for 75 years and it only gets better with Monopoly Streets!
Based on a popular Nickelodeon television series, iCarly 2 for Nintendo DS allows players to experience the game as if they were a character in the show. As Ridgeway High School’s new student you’ll be able to venture into Groovie Smoothie, the Pacific Place Mall, Carly’s bedroom and more — all the cool hangouts (over 20!) from the show! You’ll compete in mini-games to unlock and collect items to use in creating the best show ever. You’ll be able to customize the set and your own look. Hang out with Carly, Sam, Freddie, Spencer and Gibby as you complete tasks, earn money and make new iCarly shows.
There is a lot going on in iCarly 2 which makes it really fun. I’ve never seen the show but this game almost makes me want to watch it! I imagine this game will be a big hit with the tween crowd, especially those familiar with the show.
DSi users will have even more fun because there are special features just for them. They’ll be able to use their DSi camera to take pictures to hang on the wall of the iCarly set and create unique fashion pieces.
Three lucky winners will receive iCarly for Nintendo DS. Enter to win by filling out the form below. Also, be sure to check out all of our other giveaways here.

The Wii game console is truly gaming experience for the entire family. Even preschoolers can enjoy playing with games such as Sesame Street Elmo’s A to Zoo Adventure and Cookie’s Counting Carnival. In Elmo’s A to Z Adventure, players explore zoo habitats including an aquarium, savanna, jungle, wetlands and the arctic. Along the way they’ll play mini games based on literacy skills such as letter identification, letter sounds and word families. In Cookie’s Counting Carnival, players join Cookie and Big Bird at the carnival. The mini games which take place in the grandstand, at the midway, petting zoo, food court and the arcade are designed to help develop math skills including number identification, counting, shapes and pattern recognition.
Both games feature:
Easy to follow audio-visual directions
Game difficulty that adjusts to the players ability level
The second Wii Remote can be used to assist your child as needed
A parent’s page that allows you to review the game and educational content that your child has played
Doesn’t this look like a cool game for preschoolers? I love how well thought out they are with the special controller covers that block out buttons that don’t need to be used for this game. I also love the fact that the game includes a parent’s page. I can’t wait to give my three year old son this game for Christmas!
You can find more information on these games at www.sesamestreetvideogames.com. Through December 20th, use code MOMMY to take 10% off any Sesame Street video game!
