What’s the one thing your baby or toddler always gets into?  Is it your purse or diaper bag?  Little girls are fascinated by what’s inside that bag you carry around all the time.  They want one of their own! Babies and toddlers can be difficult to shop for for some people.  When friends and family ask what your little girl wants for Christmas this year, tell them she wants a Bright Starts Pretty in Pink Put & Take Purse. She’ll love having a purse of her own with accessories like a cell phone, money, teether and mirror which are all included.  Putting items into the purse and removing them help develop her motor skills while providing entertainment and fun.  The cell phone features numbers and rattle beads, the money crinkles for a sensory and tactile experience and the heart shaped mirror allows for self-discover.  Press the bow on the purse for fun sounds.  The handle makes it easy for her to carry around, just like Mommy!  A portion of the proceeds from the Bright Starts Pretty in Pink Purse support breast cancer charities. This kids purse retails for around $12.

It’s so cute to watch the way baby’s brains work while playing with a toy.  I love watching my little girl take things out, examine them by turning them over and over again and then putting them back in.  I love it even more when she gets excited about something and bounces up and down with a big smile on her cute little face.  Believe me when I say that this is a toy your little girl will love.  The price is great too!

A complimentary product/service was provided for this review, however, all opinions expressed are my own.  I was not compensated in any other way.  See Mommies With Cents disclosure policy for more details.

10 Tips For Organizing Toys #WallTracks

by holly on September 28, 2011

If you’ve got kids, you’ve got toys and if you’ve got toys, you probably know that they seem to take over the entire house.  I can handle little messes but on the days that every.single.toy. gets taken out, I go a little crazy.  So do my kids.  It can be overwhelming for them when they don’t have a clear and defined way to clean up. When I give them simple directions like “Put all the cars on the car carpet” things get cleaned up a lot quicker.  That’s why it’s important to keep things organized, for the whole family’s sanity!  Here are my tips for organizing toys:

  1. Drawers — We have a set of rubbermaid type drawers in the “kitchen” area.  It serves as a “cupboard” of sorts.  It has three drawers and holds all of the dishes and play food.  It’s easy for the kids to pull open the drawers and toss things in when it’s time to clean up.
  2. Puzzle Pods — Keep puzzle pieces from getting lost with these handy envelopes that stick right to the back of board puzzles.  You can make your own if you are the crafty type.  They also work well for board games.
  3. Rain Gutter Book Case —  I really want to make one of these!  It sounds so simple and it keeps books right within kid’s reach to encourage them to read more!
  4. Animal Bag — Have stuffed animals gotten out of control at your house?  These Animal Bags by Boon give them all a nice place to rest while providing a soft seat for the kiddos to play on.
  5. A Place for Everything — Like I mentioned above with the cars on the car carpet, if everything has a defined place, your kids will know exactly where to put their toys when it’s time to clean up.
  6. Toy Box — We use our toy box for all of the random toys that don’t have a defined space.  Anything that doesn’t have a “home” goes in the toy box.
  7. Play Games — Keeping the toys cleaned up and organized can be a challenge.  Turn it into a fun one by setting up a competition such as “beat the clock” or “who can clean up the fastest”.  When you turn it into a game, cleaning up gets done a whole lot quicker!
  8. Keep Toys Contained — We have a play room and that’s where all of the toys stay.  My kids are allowed to take one or two toys to bed at bedtime and each have a basket of books in their room but that’s it.  It keeps things a lot more organized than having toys spread out all over the entire house!
  9. Set up Circuits— Make bins of toys and rotate them on a regular basis.  This keeps the toys fresh and interesting to your kids.  Keep bins in a closet and only bring out a few at a time.
  10. Don’t Go Overboard — Don’t go crazy buying your kids toys.  Regularly go through them and donate ones that aren’t getting played with.  Too many toys can be overwhelming in itself

What do you do to keep toys organized?  I’d love to hear your tips!

Zing Air Review & Giveaway

by holly on September 23, 2011

I always thought that if I had a little boy, I’d have a “no weapons” rule.  I held out for the first couple of years while it was still fairly easy.  Then my Hubs brought home a couple of Nerf guns and it was all over. Boys will be boys right?  Are you worried about toys like sling shots being dangerous? Zing Toys put parent’s minds at ease with their soft foam ammunition toys.  Kids can get outside and get active without the worry.  Here are a couple of fun options:

  • Z-Curve Bow— This foam bow and arrow set lets you practice your aim.  Just hook the arrow into the loading zone through the loops system then pull back, aim, and fire!  Choice of ammunition includes a stick-anywhere dart and long range Red-X soft-foam darts with bounce-back action.
  • Zing-Shot Launcher—What childhood is complete without a slingshot? This one comes with a soft-foam ammo ball that can be launched up to 45 feet with the two-prong launcher.

Set up some cans and send the kids outside for some worry-free target practice.  The Z-Curve Bow retails for around $20 while the Zing-Shot Launcher retails for around $10.  I’ve changed my stance a little.  Sometimes parents just have to be flexible.  Yes, my son has a Nerf gun.  He also builds swords and guns and light sabers out of Legos and Superstructs.  But he knows if he actually uses them on his sisters or anyone else, they’ll get taken away.  I like Zing Air toys because they are soft so even if someone accidentally gets pegged, the chances of  an actual injury are low.  I’m still not a big fan of weapon type toys but I do find it amusing how boys gravitate towards them.  My four year old gets that sparkle in his eye just talking about them.  Any mom of a boy will tell you, it’s inevitable!  At least we can make it as safe as possible.

Zing Air Toys are available at various retail stores and specialty boutiques including Academy Sports + Outdoors, Amazon.com, Bass Pro Shops, Cabela’s, Calendar Club, Fred Meyer, Fry’s Electronics, Target, Toys “R” Us, and many more.

Feeling lucky?  Enter to win a toy from Zing Air by filling out the form below.  Also, be sure to check out all of our other giveaways.

Play, Draw, Create Review

by holly on September 1, 2011

Kids love “busy” activities and parents love them too.  Play, Draw, Create sets by Green Start are a fun and earth-friendly activity that kids will adore.  Each play set comes with a magnetic dry erase board, over 30 magnetic play pieces, five dry erase markers in different colors, and a write-on/wipe-off activity book that is filled with an assortment of reusable activities and games.  Play, Draw, Create sets are available in “Trucks” and “Princesses” themes.  These activity sets are great for road trips or whenever a little creative quiet time is needed.  Made for kids ages 4-8, Play, Draw, Create kits retail for $16.99 each.

We’ve been using Play, Draw, Create for Jackson after nap.  He wakes up before his sisters and needs to continue quiet time for a little while.  He really loves the truck coloring page.  There are directions for which part of the truck should be a certain color.  Each page has a different, fun, activity that can be completed over and over again.  We really love this set.  They only thing I wish was different was that a pouch or pocket was provided for the magnets.  There are so many that it’s hard for them all to stick when closing the set.  It’s also hard to arrange them when they are all on the board.  I’m thinking about using a Puzzle Pod on the back to keep the pieces organized and allow for more board space.  The dry erase markers are great for the board but be careful in the car, or in our case, on the couch.  Trust me when I say that the red maker doesn’t wash out!

Laser Pegs Review

by holly on July 23, 2011

Laser Pegs are a unique toy construction set that lights up using three AA batteries or an AC/DC power adapter.  Each piece feeds the next piece a low voltage current, lighting it up as you construct your masterpiece.   A bright, high quality LED light is incased in each clear ABS plastic building piece.  The lights are designed to run about 100,000 hours, giving this toy a very long life expectancy.  Use the building models or your own imagination to create one-of-a-kind lighted works of art.  Ten different shapes of Laser Pegs are available in kits or accessories packs.  The latest kit, The World of Bugs allows users to build and learn about a variety of bugs.  It comes with 84  Laser Pegs including four new shapes.  18 different models can be built around the bug theme and the included manual features facts about each bug created.  Laser Pegs are recommended for boys and girls ages 7 and up.  Laser Peg sets start at around $20.

My 4 year old thought Laser Pegs were really cool.  That’s no surprise to me, because they are!  I love that you can use batteries in the base to make it “wireless” or use an AC adapter when it’s convenient.  These will be really fun to take on our camping trip.  Jackson can play with them in the dark in the tent to wind down before bed.  We’ve put the pieces into a bag so we don’t lose them, making it easy to take  on-the-go.  If you are looking for a really fun and unique toy, this is it!

For more information, please visit www.laserpegs.com.
