My hubby is a tech gadget-a-holic. Whenever something new comes out, he NEEDS it. When the original iPod first came out, he had to have it. Then came the video iPod. He had to have that too. Yep, you guessed it- he couldn’t live without an iPhone. We can’t live without an iPhone- “we” being our family. We all use it- including my two year old son.
Recently we were at the bank filling out some loan papers. That’s no day at the park for a toddler. He tired quickly of the coloring book and crayons that were given to him. He was restless and cranky until we remembered the iPhone. It has saved us in a pinch many of times. Waiting for a table at a restaurant, long car rides, grocery trips etc. have been spared toddler meltdowns (and mommy meltdowns!) with the iPhone.
There are a number of things we use on the iPhone to entertain Jackson. The latest is the iStoryTime app. For only $1.99 you can download a children’s story. Currently there are 6 to choose (more to come in the future). The app was designed for a 2 year old to use so even us parents can figure it out 😉 The app works with iPod Touch and iPhone.
• Original stories and illustrations are perfect for pre-schoolers
• Educational alternative to mindless movies and games
• Automatic navigation and narration make it incredibly simple to use
• Narration options: Kids voice, adult voice or silent for self-reading
• Automatic or manual page turn
• Onscreen text and narration develop pre-reading skills
My son loves books, so having a library on a device we always carry is super handy! I love that you can select to have the story narrated, or turn it off. That way someone can read it to him. When he’s older and learning to read he will still be able to use it.
Jackson likes pushing buttons (no idea where he gets it from!) so he loves turning the pages of iStoryTime books himself. Having the choice of auto or manual page turn is a nice feature.
I love having something Jackson enjoys that is also educational for those times when he desperately needs a distraction.
