Parent’s Magazine Quick & Easy Kid-Friendly Meals Cookbook Review & #Giveaway

Dinner time with picky kids is tough. I’m always looking to expand the repertoire of meals my kids will actually eat. I know I’m not alone — it comes with the territory, right? It can be a challenge for many parents to prepare healthy meals and snacks that their kids will eat. For over 85 years Parents Magazine has helped parents make smart decisions about their children’s health and well being. Their new book, Parents Quick & Easy Kid-Friendly Meals continues that tradition with 125 simple yet healthy recipes for every meal including snacks, beverages and treats that kids will love. The book also offers fun ways to introduce your kids to cooking and kitchen prep along with tips, nutrition information and more. Each recipe is named with children in mind to keep them interested such as Nutty Noodles and Pear-Bear Muffins. Full color photos of each of the recipes will have your mouth watering and inspire you to try the recipes. The cookbook retails for around $20.

I love the fact that each recipe has a picture that accompanies it (all cookbooks should do this!) I’ve also found that kids are a lot more likely to at least try a dish with a cute or funny name and this cookbook won’t leave you trying to create your own. The recipes in this book might not ALL be for you but you are bound to find some new recipes to try that your children will like.

Two of my children are red heads with very sensitive skin. My youngest hasseemed to escape the curse of fair skinned sensitivity, at least for now. Odwalla Smoothies for Kids Review & #Giveaway

In our household we drink water or milk. Juice is usually a treat reserved for special occasions and outings. We do love smoothies though and now we can get them juice box style from Odwalla! Odwalla Smoothies for Kids are 100% juice and are not from concentrate. The come in 3 delicious flavors:

Strawberry Banana Jungle
Mango Pineapple Island
Grape Berry Prairie

My kids liked the Strawberry Banana Jungle but I say that Mango Pineapple Island wins hands down. All three varieties are really yummy. Best of all, each juice box contains one whole serving of fruit. For those with gluten sensitivities you’ll be happy to know that these are gluten-free.

While I mostly served these juice boxes as a snack, I still felt good about serving them with breakfast or lunch once in awhile. Of course there were no objections from the kids.

Tribe Hummus Review & #Giveaway

I recently had the opportunity to try Tribe Hummus which I was really excited about since I had never tried hummus before. Tribe Hummus is all natural and made from chickpeas. It’s most commonly used as a dip or a spread but can also be used in recipes. I tested it out on Wheat Thins. The Roasted Garlic variety was so good I could hardly stop eating it! It’s also available in Classic, Sweet Roasted Red Pepper, Zesty Lemon, Horseradish, Jalapeno, Sun Dried Tomato & Basil, Cracked Chili Peppers, Kalamata Olive, Roasted Eggplant, Spicy Chipotle and Forty Spices.

Tribe Hummus has provided a couple of recipes that take less than five minutes to prepare:

Hummus Veggie Burger – Frozen veggie burgers like Veggie Patch’s Ultimate Meatless Burger make an easy weeknight dinner. For an added kick, spread Tribe’s Roasted Garlic Hummus on a sandwich thin, and add fresh lettuce and tomato.
Veggie Parfait– In a small drinking glass, layer raw carrots, radishes, celery and bell peppers. In between each layer add a dollop of Tribe’s Classic Hummus. This easy creation will look great and taste even better!

Because Your Mommy Loves You #Giveaway

I’ve always thought it was a neat idea to share a special book with your child or children or Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. There’s nothing like reading together to celebrate being a mom or dad. For my husband’s first Father’s Day when my son was just a couple of months old we bought Hop on Pop with the matching plush toy and have collected several other special books through the years. Best selling author Andrew Clements has written two children’s books perfect for children to share with their parents for Mother’s Day and Father’s Day:

Because Your Mommy Loves You —a sweet story about a little boy and his mom who go on a hiking trip and camp out under the stars. Mommy is reassuring but encourages her son’s independence in loving way allowing him to take pride in doing things on his own.
Because Your Daddy Loves You — a tribute to dads everywhere, this humous book is about a young child spending the day at the beach filled with minor problems. Dad affectionately and patiently finds a way to remedy each problem they encounter.

Both books are illustrated by R.W. Alley best known for his illustrations in the Paddington Bear series. Andrew Clements is also the author of Frindle, a popular book for middle grades. Perfect for celebrating the upcoming holidays these books can be read together with a parent and enjoyed again and again long after the special day has passed.

I really enjoyed Because Your Mommy Loves You because it reminded me to teach my children to be independent and encourage them to try to do things on their own. Sometimes it’s easier to take over and help because it’s easier or faster but taking the extra time and having a little patience will go a long way on fostering important skills and instilling the “can-do” attitude in your children. It’s a great book that I would highly recommend!
