One of my favorite parts about being a mom is watching my kids learn and discover new things. My 10 year old son has always been interested in building things and figuring out how things work. It’s amazing to me the toys that are available these days that cater to this type of learning while tying it into technology. One of the coolest products we’ve had the opportunity to try is the Tomo 2-in-1 Transformable DIY Programmable Robot Kit. This educational toy teaches beginners ages 8+ about graphical programming, electronics and robotics through building and the use of smart devices. STEM topics (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) are what interests my son the most and this toy was designed with STEM learning in mind.
The kit comes with everything you need to build the robot. It isn’t overly complicated but still challenging enough for a big sense of accomplishment. There are different types of screws and the driver tool is reversible to accommodate the different head types. The parts are clearly labeled and the ports are color-coded to help with assembly.
Jackson absolutely loved building this robot which can be built as a tricycle or a dicycle that can track lines, avoid obstacles, race and more. One of the coolest things about this kit is that there are endless extensions. The brain, main control board, comes in an enclosed case with color-coded ports that allow for these extensions. We can wait to see what they come out with for this!
Assembling the Robot kept Jackson busy for awhile. Then it was time to download the free apps and test out what the robot could do. This was pretty exciting — to see the creation come to life.
There are two apps — one to control and play with Tomo and one for beginners to learn graphical programming. The latter allows the user to program different commands and is a super cool feature! Tomo is available on Amazon for a reasonable price of $99.99 with free shipping.
We are also giving away robots to 5 Mommies with Cents followers! All you have to do is sign up for the Power Club group! The giveaway will be open for one week and then 5 winners will be selected!
Good luck!
