My oldest daughter LOVES to create, especially in the kitchen. We’ve been dabbling with small cooking projects but haven’t had the time to get into more creative pinterest-y type projects. Gramma in a Box was the perfect solution for us. Terry Chamberlin created this fun membership-based subscription service after her grandchildren moved out of state. She started mailing them boxes of cookies each holiday for them to decorate as they Skyped. It was such a hit she decided to make it available to anyone!
Each month member receive cookies to decorate including frosting and sprinkles plus two easy candy crafts. You’ll get all the supplies you need to make up to 20 treats to share each month for only $20 per month. You can also purchase a 3, 6 or 12 month subscription for slightly reduced prices. From the looks of our first box, I know I’d be spending a lot more than $20 for the supplies and putting in a lot more time to prepare the projects. Grammy Terry does all of this for you and our first box was a very well received by my 9 year old daughter! Here’s what we made:
The first project was chocolate covered pretzels. McKinley said she’d always wanted to make these! It was fun and easy and she was able to do everything on her own. The main ingredient of this project was melting chocolate and it was used for the next project as well.
The left over chocolate was spread into a rectangle, sprinkled with mini marshmallows, mini chocolate chips and teddy bear graham crackers to make an adorable S’mores chocolate bar.
Isn’t it cute?! It tasted really good too and McKinley was proud to share a square with each of her family members! It was the next project that really blew her socks off though!
The next project was Emoji cookies. McKinley LOVES Emojis and this project gave her more creative freedom than the other ones. She absolutely loved this project! It came with some really fun candies to use for decorations, yellow sprinkles and the cutest little bags of frosting that were just enough to complete the cookies.
All three projects kept McKinley busy for about an hour. In the ends, she had three yummy treats to share with the rest of the family. I love that we didn’t end up with way too many sweets. The kit was the perfect size. I knew Gramma in a Box would fun but it was even better than I expected. It would make a great gift for anyone that loves sweets and crafts!
