Every 2.2 seconds a child becomes an orphan.

There are approximately 500,000 children in Foster Care in the United States.

Hearing these statistics makes my heart hurt.

As a child, my passion was to be an “orphanage runner”. It still is a dream of mine that I hope one day to fulfill. I also have a very special place in my heart for foster children. Every child deserves a loving mommy and daddy to take care of them.

David Holdridge, became Founder and CHO – Chief Happiness Officer – in 2008, at a mere seven years old. He wanted to combine his little sister’s two favorite things: stuffed animals and blankies, in order to create something that could make kids all over the world feel happy and safe. David’s mom, Emily Holdridge, found this to be a really good idea, and thus Happy Blankie was born. David knew his idea was a great one because whenever anyone felt or saw a Happy Blankie, they had a smile a mile wide.

Then Emily had a great idea – give a blankie away to a child in need whenever a blankie is sold. Voila! “one to love, one to give” became the core philosophy of Happy Blankie. This concept of sharing is based on Emily’s message to her children – love one another, share with others, and make a difference in the world.

Happy Blankie works with organizations around the world, doing “Blankie Drops” every few months to children in need of comfort. What I think is absolutely neat, is that YOU will be able to make a difference by choosing where you would like the second blankie to go! After you register and choose where you’d like the blankie to go, Happy Blankie will send you an email, keeping you informed of future giving dates and destinations.

To demonstrate just how selfless and kind David is, here’s a peek into David’s heart – May 5th they visited a Ronald McDonald House and gave away Happy Blankies. May 5th is David’s birthday.

I had the privilege in being able to interview Pure of Heart David:
Q. What do you want to be when you grow up?
A. Electronics designer/engineer or an Artist

Q. If you could combine your two favorite things together, (what are they and) what would the two combined become?
A. Fishing and sword fighting: Fishing pole/sword – press a button to interchange the two for convenience.

Q. Is stuffed animals and blankies still your sister’s two favorite things? If not, what are they now and what would the two combined become?
A. No, their 2 favorite things are playing outside and their Happy Blankies. So maybe a waterproof or weatherproof Happy Blankie that doesn’t get dirty.

Q. What does your sister want to be when she grows up?
A. I have 2 sisters, 6 & 7. One wants to be a Vet, one wants to be a teacher.

Q. What is your favorite Happy Blankie?
A. Tumble the Bear!

Q. If you could design a new Happy Blankie by yourself, what would it look like?
A. I would design a mouse with big round ears, two teeth, a pink nose and whiskers.

Q. What is your favorite thing to do with your Happy Blankie?
A. Cuddle up and go to sleep.

Q. What favorite memories do you have of giving away Happy Blankies?
A. My favorite memory so far is from the Ronald McDonald House in NYC. There was a sick girl there who lover her frog blankie and kept going around trying to scare people. She was happy!

Q. Do you think you’re a hero?
A. Maybe to some kids.

Q. From serious to silly – what would you like to let our readers know about you?
A. I love God. I love animals. Cooking is one of my favorite things to do. I used to breakdance when I was 5 and my mom has a video of it, that’s embarrassing!

I received Chase the Happy Dog. I’m.in.love. I was blown away at how adorable and soft Happy Blankies are! The craftsmanship is quite remarkable! Happy Blankie has a Personalization option that will make any blankie an extra special gift. Each name that is placed onto a Happy Blankie can be personalized with script or block font; there are also 13 different colors of thread to pick from. Names will be embroidered on the right ear (facing blanket.) A $10.00 additional fee will be charged.

For an additional $5.00 fee you can opt to have your Happy Blankie gift wrapped. The blankie will arrive in a white gift box with custom tissue paper and wrapped in their colorful stripped signature ribbon. All gift messages will be hand written on customary stationary.

Also, Happy Blankie allows you to buy gift certificates for any amount over $10.00. When payment for your order is processed, your gift certificates are activated and aresent to their respective recipients via email.(Gift certificates expire after five years.)
