I’ll admit, as parents, we’ve been pretty lax when it comes to screen time. We have three active kiddos that are very involved in sports. When we do have down time, I tend to let them use it however they please. We basically have one rule —Devices aren’t allowed in their rooms so we can keep an eye on what they are doing. I’m not naive though. I see the kinds of trouble kids can get into, even unknowingly. My kids are getting older (10,9 and 7) and there are many reasons I should be more proactive with their device usage, the top reason for me is to protect them. Kidslox is an app that makes it super easy to control all of my kids devices and set up guidelines for them. This monthly/annual subscription service is a must-have for parents.
I downloaded Kidslox on my phone. Then I downloaded it on each of my kid’s devices so that I can control each of them. I can set up daily/weekly schedules, time limits, restrictions and more plus the app comes with it’s own safety features like inappropriate content filtering. There are three modes: Parent Mode (unrestricted use), Child Mode (settings applied), and Lockdown. We set up Lockdown mode for bedtime but it can also be used for dinner time, homework time etc. You can set up different schedules to suit your needs.
During the week we set up daily limits and also applied restrictions. The kids have unlimited access to educational apps and activity type apps but are limited on apps like Netflix and games. Weekends are basically unlocked during the day but bedtimes still apply. One of my favorite things about Kidslox is that I can lockdown any device at any time. Let’s say my son is playing a game on his tablet and I ask him to unload the dishwasher. If he doesn’t get up to do what I asked, I can shutdown is device. BOOM!
I love the flexibility of Kidslox. They’ve thought of everything and made it really user-friendly. Kidslox is great for shared devices. I can make any device kid-friendly without having to delete my own apps. For example, I use social media a lot for work but my kids don’t have their own accounts and I don’t want them to have access to mine. I can just block those apps in child mode but they are still accessible to me in parent mode.

Wow Kidslox sounds like the best I’ve ever heard of. I just red that Bill Gates has limitations on his childrens’ media usage, not at nighttime, dinnertime, and more. The person who came up with the details for this must have kids, they sure know what is needed.
