MasterChef Junior Season Three premiered on Tuesday this week. I was out of town so I didn’t get a chance to watch it with my six year old daughter who has shown an interest in cooking. Luckily, I was able to catch the first episode online at fox.com and she was totally into it! Since I hadn’t seen previous seasons I didn’t really know what to expect but I had a good feeling McKinley would love it. One of her favorite shows is Cake Boss and while MasterChef covers a much broader area of cooking, she was just as interested!
A team of 1-13 year olds compete in cooking challenges to showcase and test their culinary abilities. They are coached and encouraged by food experts and judges including: award-winning chef Gordon Ramsay, restaurateur Joe Bastianich, and chef Graham Elliot. They are also judged and eliminated until only one remains and earns the title of MasterChef Junior and $100,000!
These are the contestants from around the country. Not only are these kids amazing chefs (unbelievably amazing in my opinion!) but their passion for cooking and strong support for one another blew me away. I might have just been over tired but I actually teared up a few times! These kids encouraged each other and cheered each other on like they were all best friends. It is so adorable to watch!
And this cutie, Riley, is the youngest chef yet quite possibly one of the most sophisticated! He speaks several languages and his cooking skills are crazy good! We’ve set the DVR to record the entire season so we won’t miss an episode. I’m looking forward to watching the show with my kids and sparking their interest in cooking! I’m also getting inspired to give my kids more opportunities to help in the kitchen or do a little creating of their own!
