I didn’t used to drink coffee. Then I was a once a week coffee girl. Then I had three kids. Now I need it to start my day! I’ve tried lots of different coffees over the years. I don’t know much about the technicalities of what makes a good coffee, I just know I don’t like mine bitter. Vice Bean Coffee is a small family-run business with a passion for the coffee bean. Much like myself, they enjoyed coffee but didn’t understand the depth of what specialty coffees had to offer. In fact, they didn’t even know they were a thing. After getting a taste for espresso, they began researching and experimenting with different beans and roasts and learned that the world of specialty coffee was much like fine wines — there’s a lot more involved than what appears on the surface. Coffee beans grown in different regions, in different soils and at differing elevations all play a role in the flavor of the coffee it produces. They way it’s roasted also plays an important role.
Vice Bean offers hand selected blends of artisan-roasted single-origin coffee. And I’m here to tell you I can definitely taste a difference. I tried two of their specialty roasted coffees and both were smooth and delicious! They recommend their whole bean coffee to be freshly ground at home but they do offer ground coffee as well which is what I got since I don’t have a grinder. As I mentioned, I’m not an educated coffee connoisseur so I appreciated how Vice Bean’s website provides lots of info including tasting notes, roasting notes and serving instructions. Here’s a bit of info on the two I tried:
CLOUD NINE:
Cloud Nine coffee beans are from a micro-lot, which makes them intensely rare and special. Not only do they come from the same Kenyan farm, but they’re harvested from a very specific area within that farm that consistently produces the best grade coffee (85+ cupping score).
Cloud Nine coffees offer another layer of excellence on top of their micro-lot origin. These are Kenya AA coffee beans, which means they are among the world’s best. They are cultivated slowly at high altitudes to give the seeds plenty of time to develop flavors and mature.
Made from a micro-lot of the largest beans grown in Kenya, Cloud Nine brews up a complex, fruity and bright cup.
TROPICAL BLISS:
Send your taste buds on a journey to paradise with every sip of Tropical Bliss.
Grown in the high altitude estates of Papua New Guinea, this single-origin coffee delivers bold flavors with bursts of tropical fruit.
Both of these roasts were delicious brewed over ice with just a touch of creamer which is how I prefer my coffee in the summer. If you like coffee, you’ll love Vice Bean. I even have a code to save you $5 off your purchase so you can try it yourself! Just use code MWC5 to get $5 off your order at www.vicebean.com.
