Ok, we all know that exercise is free. All you have to do is do it. Take a walk, do some jumping jacks, a few sit ups or any number of other things that don’t require any equipment. Yet many of us find it easier to take a class or hit the gym which comes at a price. In times like these many of us are also finding that we need to cut expenses and pricy gym memberships may be the first to go.
I’m sure most of you have heard of Nintendo Wii. If you aren’t already on the band wagon, it might be time for you to jump on- literally! Nintendo is absolutely genius for inventing the Wii and many of the games that go along with it. Video games are no longer for sitting on your bum all day. They are fun, interactive and designed to get you and the kids moving.
Yes, the Nintendo Wii is a bit expensive at around $250, but consider it an investment. An investment in your health and family. Right out of the box you can play a round of tennis with your kids or go bowling with the whole family with the Wii Sports game that is included. It is cheaper than an annual gym membership and geared for all ages.
Eventually you will also want to invest in Wii Fit (about $90). Here is some info about Wii Fit from Amazon:
“Wii Fit comes with the Wii Balance Board. Wii Fit combines fitness with fun and is designed for everyone, young and old. Wii Fit players work towards personal fitness goals and they block soccer balls, swivel hips to power hoop twirls, and go big on ski jumps to get themselves there.
Check your daily progress, set goals, check your Wii Fit Age, and even enter exercise time you’ve done outside of Wii Fit. Wii Fit Age is measured by factoring the user’s BMI reading, testing the user’s center of gravity and conducting quick balance tests. Training is at the core of Wii Fit. You can spend as much (or as little) time as you want trying out all of the 40+ activities Wii Fit offers.”

Sega has just announced Daisy Fuentes Pilates for the Wii. Now you can do a Pilates class right in your own living room for less than the cost of three group classes. Daisy Fuentes herself guides the classes in English or Spansih and provides healthy diet and exercise tips throughout the game. This game also provides real-time feedback to improve players positioning and moves.
“This is a great way to get Pilates training that fits your schedule and lifestyle,” said Daisy Fuentes. “You can start out as an absolute beginner then move into intermediate and advanced levels–all at your own pace, in the comfort of your own home, and with responsive feedback that helps ensure you’re mastering core skills correctly before you advance.”
Daisy Fuentes Pilates is set to be released late summer 2009.
