Review & Giveaway: FreeAgent Go for MAC

by holly on June 26, 2009

Not too long ago I made the leap from PC to Mac and I have been very pleased with the change. I had been using a Clickfree to back up my laptop but since the model I was using was specifically for a PC, I haven’t been able to back up my Mac Book. I was thrilled when I was offered the opportunity to review the FreeAgent Go for Mac which Seagate recently released.

Depending on your needs, the FreeAgent Go is available in a 250 GB model for a MSRP of $99.99, a 320 GB for a MSRP of $119.99 and a 500 GB model for a MSRP of $149.99.
I’m no tecno-geek so I will include the specs below for those who know what they mean!
System Requirements
• Mac OS X 10.4.9 or later
• 256 MB RAM or more
• 1 available USB 2.0 or FireWire port
• Docking stati on requires FireWire 800 connection
Product Dimensions 0.69 in H x 3.15 in W x 5.40 in L (17.5 mm x 80 mm x 137.18 mm)
Weight: 7.76 oz (0.22 kg)
Performance Specs
• USB 2.0: up to 480 Mb/s
• FireWire 400: up to 400 Mb/s
• FireWire 800: up to 800 Mb/s
• Rotati onal Speed: 5400 RPM
Inside the Box
• FreeAgent Go drive
• Desktop docking stati on
• Travel case
• FireWire 800 cable
• FireWire 800 to 400 cable
• USB cable
• USB power cable
• Quickstart guide
As you can see from the picture above, the FreeAgent Go go is compact and sleek looking. I love the way the silver looks but what I love even more is it’s ease of use and portability. Pictures and videos of my kids are very important to me and I would be devastated if I ever lost those files. We also have a large music library that we’ve built over the years as well. I can rest easier now knowing that my files are safely backed up on my FreeAgent Go.
My dad loves pictures of my kids (what grandpa wouldn’t?!). When I lived out of state I would send him a CD every month with all of the recent photos of my son (this was before my daughter was born). Since moving back, I haven’t given him a single CD and boy have I heard about it! The FreeAgent Go has a handy travel case so now when I visit my dad I can bring it along and share my pictures with him.
They say “a picture is worth a thousand words”. I don’t know what a thousand words equates to but the cost of a FreeAgent Go to protect my pictures is worth every penny.
Enter to win a FreeAgent Go by filling out the form below. Be advised that while Seagate makes a PC version of the FreeAgent Go this giveaway is for the Mac model. Be sure to check out all of our other giveaways here.
