I was really excited to get the opportunity to review the new Wii Family Fun Football game. My hubby is as football crazed as they come. In fact, it was difficult to find a moment to test this game out when an actual live football game wasn’t on tv. We pay hefty sums of money to get every football game known to man and dear hubby has been known to play a game or two (or 50) of Madden on Xbox 360.
I don’t consider myself a fan- more like a football widow. I know next to nothing about the game. I just wear the jersey on game day to fit in. For the sake of this review however, I watched while my husband tried it out. To me it looked very basic and hubby agreed. It was definitely very simplistic- especially compared to Madden. Instead of a complex playbook, there are only a handful of plays to choose from. Of course, Wii Family Fun Football was designed this way on purpose so that families, even those with young children, could play it together. My son is only two but, like his dad, he loves football. He had fun just watching the cartoonistic figures run around the screen and yelling “TOUCHDOWN!” Some of the mini games (10 in all) that are played during halftime were fun and playing as a mascot was a fun twist. While it bored my husband playing it by himself, in a year or two I think he will have a blast playing it with our son while teaching him the basics of the game.
Here are the game features as described in the press release:
- Simple playbook: A coaching playbook that makes it easy for everyone to learn and play the game of football!
- Power-ups: Earn power-ups during gameplay to enhance certain attributes including speed, strength, passing, and interception for a limited amount of time. Use them wisely to gain momentum in the game!
- Quickplay: Jump right into the action! Select two teams and the stadium you want to play in to get started. Up to four players can play for 2-on-2 football fun!
- Season: Play through a nine game season, each game against a different opponent. Defeat every team to be the best!
- Tournament: Play your way through a double-elimination tournament and be the last team standing to win it all!
- Mascot Mode: You can play as your team’s mascot, or as one of 10 unlockable mascots in Mascot Mode!
- Mii Compatibility: Load in your own Mii and play against your friends’ and family’s Miis for a more personal experience.

My granddaughters are football fans…only because Daddy is a the biggest Vikings fan ever! They love to watch games with him, and would love this Wii game!
