I read a post the other day on Facebook about a woman who found deadly spiders in her bananas from the grocery store. When she peeled her banana the eggs fell out and started hatching all over her table. Turns out these baby spiders were some of the world's deadliest and she had to evacuate her house! Talk about creepy! No wonder people are so scared of bugs!
I just read about the top 10 bug phobias on the Orkin Ecologist site. Spiders not only top the list of bug phobias but also top the list of phobias in general! Another one high on the list of bug phobias are bees. Spiders don't really bother me unless I find one ON me or accidentally walk through a spider web. Bees on the other hand get me in instant panic mode. I'm allergic to them though not in the anaphylactic way (more of a topical way). Luckily that means I don't have to carry an epi pen.
The Orkin Ecologist site is actually really cool. Bugs are fascinating! The site is a great educational resource for kids and science lovers or those who just want to learn a little more about bugs!
I grew up in Washington state so when we moved to Texas for a few years we got a whole new bug experience. I learned what fire ants were and was not impressed. I found silverfish in my kitchen cabinets. Also not impressed. I never did see a scorpion. That's the good news. I did on the other hand encounter one of the biggest bugs I've ever seen. I don't know what it was but it freaked me out! I was on my way to an interview so my nerves were already frayed. Then out of nowhere I saw a GIANT bug on my dashboard. At first I thought it was a toy and a joke, it was that big. But then it started moving! I had to pull over and get it out of my car on my own! And, I didn't get the job.
