I’ve started giving myself 10 minute challenges. I set my timer for 10 minutes and tackle a household chore while my children are having a snack or lunch. It’s amazing how much you can accomplish in only 10 minutes when you focus on the task. The 10 minute challenge is a weekly feature on Mommies with Cents. Each week, I will show you one of the things I was able to accomplish in 10 minutes. I encourage you to join me- it really easy amazing what you are able to achieve, even if it’s incremental, if you set your mind (and timer!) to it!
One thing that always gets pushed to the back burner is mopping the kitchen floor. I sweep the floor several times a day. There’s really no way around that with three little kids but I always think, “I don’t have time to mop right now…I’ll do it later” But how long does it really take to mop the floor? You guessed it! About 10 minutes.
This chore I can’t really get done during snack or lunch time so I gave the kids a snack and then moved the highchair into the living room and turned on what my kids call “kid channels”. I sprayed the obviously dirty spots with a vinegar & water solution first then mopped with my steam mop which takes about 30 seconds to heat up. I even had enough time to give my baseboards a quick wipe down!
Does this mean I’ll mop my floors more often? Probably not…but at least now I know that I can squeeze it in when it needs a good mopping instead of putting it off.
I’d love to hear ways you manage your time at home with kids. Please share your tips with me and our other readers by leaving a comment, then come back next week for another 10 minute challenge!
