I brought back the 10 Minute Challenge for the New Year after a long hiatus. Just like I used to, I started giving myself 10 minute challenges. I set my timer for 10 minutes and tackle a household chore while my children are having a snack or lunch. It’s amazing how much you can accomplish in only 10 minutes when you focus on the task. The 10 minute challenge is a weekly feature on Mommies with Cents. Each week, I will show you one of the things I was able to accomplish in 10 minutes. I encourage you to join me- it really easy amazing what you are able to achieve, even if it’s incremental, if you set your mind (and timer!) to it!
Do you have a space in your home that you wish was bigger? Someplace that needs more storage space? Sometimes it helps to think outside of the box a little. Take your closet for example. Even if you don’t have a walk-in closet, you likely can add shelving above your hanger space if you don’t already have it. Or you can add a second bar for hanging below the first to double your capacity. Depending on the type of closet door you have, you can also had different types of hooks or organizers to increase your storage capabilities.
We have a walk-in closet with plenty of space, however, it could use some organizational help. My scarves and belts were shoved into cubbies and draped messily over hangers. I couldn’t find them easily when I wanted to wear them. When I saw these hooks online at Kohls.com I thought they’d be perfect for our closet. Originally, I thought they were 3 separate hooks which would have made them super versatile however these hooks are actually a single unit. I bought two. It took me about 10 minutes to install them. They don’t come with hardware so I picked up some molly screws at Home Depot and used them to hang each unit. Our closet has some really odd angles and there was really only one area that hand enough wall space to hang these.
Just looking at this picture, I think adding ledge shelves above each of the hook units would look really cute with a few little framed photos on them. After I attached these to the wall, I hung my scarves up but left one of the units empty. It didn’t take long for my hubby to take it over. He started hanging his jacket there almost immediately! I really like having the extra space to help unclutter the closet. Now I get find my scarves without having to dig through everything and it really adds some style to our otherwise boring closet!
