Until babies are three to five months old they have something called Moro Reflex. Also called startle reflex, infants respond to loud noises by flinging their arms out and then retracting them. This reflex is also caused when the baby feels like it is falling. The fear of falling is the only unlearned fear in newborns. This is one of the many reasons to swaddle babies.
