Did you know September is National Preparedness Month? This is an important topic for me and I’m taking all the steps to make sure my family is prepared for emergency situations like hurricanes and tornados, or in my neck of the woods — earthquakes. There is no better use of time or resources than taking steps to keep the ones I love safe.
Points of Light Institute is launched Good & Ready on Aug. 15, a program of the Get HandsOn campaign which focuses on emergency preparedness education and encourages Americans to create family emergency plans, build emergency preparedness kits and get trained with an emergency response organization.
Good & Ready has some great resources at www.gethandson.com and their Facebook page. You can pledge your plans to get good and ready, enter sweepstakes, donate and take the interactive quiz to test your family’s readiness for emergencies and disasters.
By pledging your plans to get good and ready, you will be entered for the chance to win a $250 Lowe’s gift card in a weekly drawing. Participants will also be entered for the chance to win a $1,000 American Express gift card in the grand prize drawing. Winners are encouraged to donate their gift card to their charity of choice. The initiative runs through Sept. 30.

Hello, how are you today? Thank you for this opportunity. My family and I reside on the South-Eastern coast of North Carolina. We experience hurricanes and tropical storms during this time of season. We are usually very prepared when it comes to food, water, ice, first-aid, sanitation and batteries.
For the future (GOD willing), I hope to invest in a diesel or propane fueled generator. I am also interested in solar power and M.R.E. (Meals Ready to Eat) and other survival sustainable items. We definitely need a more expansive current first-aid kit. We would really appreciate and benefit from winning the above emergency preparedness kit.
