My 4 year old asked me yesterday “Mommy, can we go out to dinner?” to which I replied “No.” She immediately asked, “Can we have steak then?” Sheesh, it wasn’t even her birthday! My husband and I love steak but it’s not often that we cook it at home. It’s more of a special occasion meal for us. We were thrilled when Firelands Cattle Company sent us some Kobe Beef to review.
Kobe is known to be the best tasting red meat available. The highest grade available on the ASDA grading system must meet a 6-8% marbled fat requirement. Firelands American Kobe falls in the 20-20% range. It’s this extremely high degree of marbled fat that gives Kobe beef it’s superior flavor and texture. The good news is that even though it’s higher in fat, it’s mostly monounsaturated fat which can actually lower LDL cholesterol.
This type of beef comes from superior genetics and the painstaking care the cattle is given in their raising. The feeding process is carefully regulated with different feeds at various stages of growth. The cattle is NOT given any hormone treatments. You can read more about what makes Kobe Beef special on the Firelands Cattle website.
We may not eat steak on a regular basis but we do eat burgers, especially in the summer when we grill out a lot! A few weeks ago we had a Sunday family dinner to enjoy the final days of summer We grilled up the Firelands Cattle Kobe Beef Hamburger Patties and they were SO good! Everyone commented on them. These juicy and flavorful 1/3 lb burger patties taste awesome off the grill! I’m sort of weird when it comes to touching raw meat so I’m glad that pre-made patties are available.
Firelands Cattle also has ground hamburger perfect for just about anything We typically use ground beef for tacos but this can be turned into patties or used in other ground beef recipes. This isn’t your ordinary store-bought ground beef — it’s so much better!
Sirloin: The leanest and simplest cut in the Firelands Cattle lineup is big on flavor and lower in fat.
Tenderloin: Also known as Filet Mignon, the Tenderloin is the most tender cut available from Firelands and is also favored among chefs. The cattle seldom use this muscle, making it very soft and also the perfect choice for special occasions.
Firelands Cattle ground beef runs $8.50 per pound while their other products vary from 1.25 to 1.95 per oz. In addition to the products mentioned above, you’ll also find Ribeye, Short Ribs, New York Steak, Porterhouse Steak, T-bone and Round Tip Sirloin.

I cannot remember the last time we had steak at our house; the meat selections in our stores where we are don’t have good cuts.
Thanks for the great Kobe giveaway! Just wondering though, above the Rafflecopter, you mention (in red) that if we don’t give you our address, you have no way to get the prize to us. Where in the world do we enter our address, or am I misreading that statement? 🙂
