This year is the 26th anniversary of the national Change Your Clock Change Your Battery program of the International Association of Fire Chiefs and fire departments nationwide. This program raises awareness of the importance of working smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors to keep your family safe.
Did you know, thirty-eight percent of fatal fire injuries occur in homes with no smoke alarms, while 24 percent occur in homes in which at least one smoke alarm is present but fails to operate, frequently due to dead or missing batteries? Its easy to forget to check the batteries because it’s something that’s not on our mind. That’s why this program was created — as a reminder to change the batteries in your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors when you set your clocks back. I could help save a life!
