It’s not very often that my kids play together without fighting so when I can find something they can enjoy together it’s practically a miracle. I’d always hoped that having my kids close together that they would be the best of friends. They love each other but sometimes it seems that 3 is a crowd. Any combination of 1 on 1 and they’re fine but add a third child in and it’s all over. One thing they work well together doing is fort building. They help one another to achieve a common goal. That’s exactly the objective of Peaceable Kingdom’s new Race to the Treasure game, another activity they love to do together without fighting. Who ever thought of cooperative games is a genius!
Race to the Treasure is a simple but fun game designed for ages 5+. My kids are 6, 5 and 3 and the youngest can easily play along with a little help from her siblings. Before you start the game you have to set up the board by rolling the dice and placing some pieces on the game board via the grid. Then each player takes turn drawing a card and placing it on the board to create a path to the finish line. If you draw an Ogre, he’s placed on his own path to the finish line. The goal of the game is to beat the Ogre. Along the way, you have to pick up 3 of the 4 keys that were placed on the board by playing a card in the same grid position. You can also pick up an Ogre snack which you can use to remove one Ogre card. Players must work together to decide the best path.
My kids love this game. It was easy to learn and it’s fun to play. No reading is required and it only takes about 20 minutes from start to finish. You can play with up to 4 people. Playing together and sharing decision making experiences helps children build self-esteem, learn to share, practice cooperation and learn to work as a team. Many Peaceable Kingdom board games are made using sustainable materials including recycled paper, soy-based inks and corn-based plastics which is just one more reason to love them.
