Nearly 40 millions Americans suffer from allergies according to AAFA and more than 10 million have allergic asthma. Did you know that the air indoors is up to five times more polluted than it is outside? Since indoors is where we spend approximately 90% of our time, indoor air quality is of the utmost importance. Here are some more facts (according to AAFA unless noted):
- Allergies are among the US’s most common but often overlooked diseases
- There are no cures, only symptom management and prevention treatment
- The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates indoor air pollution as one of the top five environmental risks to public health.
- Poor indoor air quality can cause or contribute to short- and long-term health problems, including asthma, respiratory tract infection and disease, allergic reactions, headaches, congestion, eye and skin irritations, coughing, sneezing, fatigue, dizziness, and nausea.
One of the easiest ways to conquer allergies is to improve your indoor air quality with the help of an air filter that uses a True HEPA filter. Only air filters which use a true HEPA filter can safely remove 99.97% of sneeze-inducing airborne particles, including dust, mold, pollen, ragweed and pet dander.
I have seasonal allergies as well as allergies to mold and dust mites which make it a year-round battle. Years ago when I saw an allergist I was given a good piece of advice: If nothing else, make your bedroom where you typically spend at least 8 hours a day, your haven. Removing your carpet and washing your bedding frequently in hot water are recommended. An air purifier with a true HEPA filter like the Fellowes AeraMax 200 can go a long way in improving air quality so if there’s one room to use it in, it’s the bedroom!
The Energy-Star certified AeraMax Air Purifier is also certified by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, the California Air Resource Board, and the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers. That’s a lot of certifications! It’s loaded with features too:
- An automatic sensor monitors the air quality and automatically adjust the fan speed to keep your air at it’s cleanest
- Ultra Quiet operation — the only time I even notice it running is if it’s super quiet and the fan speed kicks up.
- Filter change indicators alert you automatically when the filter needs to be changed
- Easy operation with touch screen technology and back-lit LEDs
Normally priced at $249.99, right now it’s only $129.99 with FREE Shipping on Amazon where it received 4.5 out of 5 stars from reviewers. While I don’t have anything to compare it to since I’ve never used an air purifier before, I have no reason to give it anything other than 5 stars. It runs quietly and I love that it adjust automatically when more allergen particles are detected. I no longer have middle of the night sneezing fits or wake up with a stuffy nose. My eyes thank me because they are no longer uncontrollably itchy which always resulted in a red, puffy mess. If you suffer from allergies, I highly recommend you give the Fellowes AeraMax Air Purifier a try, especially at this price!
