My hubby made a New’s Years Resolution this year that I’m proud to say he has stuck to. He started eating healthier and exercising more for a positive and lasting lifestyle change. He’s done it all on his own and has made some great progress! My husband is a guy who likes stats and can be motivated by goal setting. The [amazon_link id=”B00BGO0Q9O” target=”_blank” ]Fitbit Flex activity and sleep-tracking wristband[/amazon_link] made the perfect early Father’s Day gift. He’s been using it for weeks now and really likes it! He got the red one which was made to support the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women movement to help raise awareness for women with heart disease. Last month, $10 from the sale of every red Flex tracker and $2 for every red Flex band purchased was donated to the AHA.
The Fitbit Flex is available in a variety of other colors too and retails for around $100. It’s features and benefits include:
- Stat Tracking — records steps, distance, calories burned and active minutes. 150 moderate intensity minutes are recommended each week by the Center for Disease Control and Fitbit Flex encourages users to meet and exceed the goal whether it’s by running, walking or doing a cardio routine.
- Sleep Tracking — Fitbit tracks the number of hours you sleep, how many times you wake up and provides a sleep efficiency index so you can try to improve the quality of sleep you’re getting. It also doubles as an alarm clock with settings for the use of a silent alarm which wakes users gently with vibration.
- Syncs Wirelessly — Using Bluetooth 4.0, sync your Fitbit to wirelessly sync your wristband tracker to your computer or app. Works with iPhone 4s, 5, and select Android devices.
- Comfort — Adjustable and water resistant band makes this wristband comfortable enough for all-day (and night!) wear.
The really cool thing about the [amazon_link id=”B00BGO0QEO” target=”_blank” ]Fitbit Flex[/amazon_link] though is it’s motivation factors. You can set goals, view progress and earn badges. You can also connect with friends and family for support or friendly competition. The Fitbit integrates with many popular health and fitness apps including MyFitnessPal, LoseIt and more.
My husband has been using the wristband for awhile now and it really helps him stay on track. It’s super easy to use and only has to be charged about once a week. The small tracking devices comes out of the bracelet and charges quickly via a USB charging station. He gets reminder emails as charging time approaches so he can be sure to “juice up” at night before bed.
I’m tempted to get a Fitbit for myself. I know I’m not as active as I should be but I was really surprised yesterday when we spent the day together how many steps we took. We went to the Mariner’s game for Father’s Day and took a short walk from the car to the stadium. It was Little League day so we got to walk the perimeter of the field. Our tickets were in the nose bleeds so we did quite a bit of stair climbing before we headed back to the car after the game. Since we’d spent the day together and figured we’d probably taken the approximate same number of steps, I asked the Hubs on the way home how we did for the day. I was shocked to find that we hadn’t reached the recommended 10,000 steps per day. That was a lot more walking than I normally do in a day and a real eye opener! The Fitbit is a fun motivator and a cool gadget to help live a healthier lifestyle whether you’re trying to lose weight, be more active, or both. You can find out more at www.fitbit.com.
