Happy Trunk Crafts & La Familia Review

I’ve got a little girl who’s favorite thing to do is craft projects. She is content sitting at the table working on projects literally for hours and she’s only 5. I really love the idea of a gift subscription box like The Happy Trunk that sends a box of craft projects on a monthly basis. I had the opportunity to try Happy Box and was pretty impressed. A single box is $19.95 + shipping but if you order a subscription (3+ months) shipping is free.

The Happy Box is different from similar craft subscription boxes that I’ve seen because these projects aren’t just for looks. Each project in our box had an activity that you could do after completion. For example, one of our projects was assembling shadow puppets. The box came with a hand powered flashlight so you can get right to your puppet show as soon as you finish putting them together! There was also an airplane game and a toy train that you could use as a pencil holder.

Another thing that I loved was the directions booklet that came with it. Not only did it include easy to understand directions and fun activities to do with your completed project but fun facts and other educational tidbits. There’s a lot of value in these little boxes! You get all the supplies you need for 2-3 projects plus directions and educational guide.

We also tried The Familia Kit. McKinley had a lot of fun with this one…I knew it would be right up her alley because she could really use her creativity. The kit comes with 8 peg dolls of different sizes, decorative paper, ribbon, embellishemnts and decoupage medium with a sponge brush.

This is just phase one of McKinley’s dolls. I know she’ll be embellishing them quite a bit more. She’ll likely dig into our craft supplies stash and see if she can find anything else she can use. This is a super fun projects and it can be used to play with when she’s done! I know her little sister is anxiously waiting to play with them!

This kit is priced at $28.95 which I thought was a little high for the supplies but I honestly don’t know how much wooden peg dolls cost so maybe it’s not priced as high as it seems to be. Still, this project is one of my favorites and one I would recommend to others! There’s so much fun to be had with these little dolls from creating them and bringing them to life to acting out stories with them.
