When I can find the time, I really love giving myself a gel manicure. It lasts a lot longer than a regular manicure but it normally takes more time too. With Bio Seaweed Gel you can reduce the amount of time it takes because you can skip the base coat and top coat! The Unity All-in-One Colour Gel Polish is a base coat, color, top coat and nail strengthener, all in one bottle. This all-in-1 formula works a lot better than I expected it to!
Most gel polishes are full of yucky chemicals. Bio Seaweed Gel is the first and only professional gel nail polish brand on the market that does not contain the “Big 5” of harmful ingredients. here is no formaldehyde, toluene, DBP, BHA or solvents in any of their formulas. This ensures that the polish does not weaken, dehydrate or cause staining of the natural nail, all side effects that are known to be serious drawbacks when considering gel nail polish.
Oddly, this polish can also be cured under sunlight with it’s BSG SolarCure technology. You don’t necessarily need a lamp to use this polish! I live in the Seattle area where sunlight is scarce this time of year so when I gave this polish a test run, I used my lamp. Most gel polish leaves a sticky residue that must be wiped off as one of the steps. Bio Seaweed polish does not. Just cure & go!
There is a pretty large selection of colors to choose from (over 114 colors!). After much debate, I settled on “Sand” because I thought it was a nice neutral that could be worn year round. It has a shimmer to it and looks good with pretty much anything. I trimmed and pushed my cuticles and made sure my nail beds were clean and free from oils. I painted on two coats of polish, curing with my light after each one.
I had some house cleaning to do afterwards and the polish on one of my nails got some small cracks in them. I sealed just this nail with the clear no-wipe topcoat. For the most part, this polish is quite flexible so that it doesn’t crack but I was pretty rough with them. After 9 days my nails were still in pretty good shape. I’m a picker though and tend to start picking and peeling the polish once it starts. I’ve learned from past mistakes that this is a bad idea and can really damage your nails if you don’t remove the polish properly.
During the time I wore this polish I traveled to Las Vegas and back, did dishes and other housecleaning and went about business as usual. I didn’t baby my nails. They held up really well in my opinion! As you can see from the photo, there was minimal peeling starting at the cuticle of my middle nail. There were also small “cracks” in the polish at the tips of most of my nails. I removed the polish today so that I wouldn’t pick at it.
Removal went better than expected. This is the process I hate the most about wearing gel. You have to soak it off. With other brands I’ve had a really hard time removing it. This brand came off a lot easier, it part I believe, because there were less layers since I didn’t need a base or top coat. Overall, I am super happy with this product and would highly recommend it. I can’t wait to try some more colors!
