In this weeks installment of our Commit to Go Green in 2009 series we are going to focus on energy conservation. We all know that turning of lights, electronic devices etc. when we are not using them help conserve energy. Here are some other ways to conserve energy and save money in the process:
Get a programmable thermostat
: Lowering your thermostat saves a lot of energy, not to mention lowers your heating bill. A programmable thermostat is especially effective if your family has a routine schedule. Lower the thermostat while you are away from home and while you are sleeping. The same goes for A/C if you use it in the summer. The last thing I remember to do before heading out the door or going to bed is to lower the thermostat so it’s nice to program it and forget about it!
Monitor Your Electricity Usage: Find more ways to save by using an Electricity Usage Monitor
. It shows the operating costs of your household appliances and calculates the costs by week, month or year alerting you to your household energy zappers.
Use Timers and Power Down: Use timing devices to help you power down devices when you don’t need them running. This Surge Protector
has 8 outlets and a day/night timer to power down everything plugged into it at a set time everyday. This surge protector
powers down your devices automatically when they aren’t in use. This standby system
is one more way to help conserve energy to anything plugged in to an electrical outlet.
If you have any tried and true ways to conserve energy in your home, we’d love to hear them! Please share them with us by leaving a comment.
