In case you haven’t heard, there is a GREAT deal going on at Walgreens right now. Pantene, Aussie and Herbal Essences haircare products are part of this deal. All products are on sale 3 for $10 with $4 register rewards back or 6 for $20 with $12 register rewards back. You can get more details on this sale and what is included HERE. There have also been manufacturer coupons in recent Sunday paper inserts on almost all of these items to make this deal even better.
If you haven’t tried any of these products and are wondering which items work best, keep reading! I’ve consulted my “Don’t Go Shopping for Hair-Care Products Without Me” guide by Paula Begoun and this is what she has to say:
Aussie Products
What’s good about this line: Generous sized and great prices; excellent styling products, especially if you are a fan of hairspray.
What’s not so good about it: All of the shampoos contain sodium lauryl sulfate; the fragrant plant and flower extracts can be a problem for those with sensitive scalps.
The entire line got good reviews with the exception of ALL the shampoos. If you want to buy Aussie, go for the conditioners and hairsprays.
Pantene Products
What’s good about this line: Some of the best conditioners (that also happen to be some of the least expensive) can be found in this line. The styling products offer some pleasant-to-use, basic options as well as some more elegant choices for smoothing hair, including an excellent silicone serum.
What’s not so good: Almost all Pantene Shampoos need to be revamped on two counts: (1) the drying and irritating ammonium xylenesulfonate (present in all but one of them) should be removed and (2) Procter & Gamble needs to stop recycling the same shampoo, conditioner, and styling product formulations in product after product after product- you will not find another hair-care line where repetiveness is so rampant. Pantene could be half the size it is now and still offer the same benefits to a wide variety of hair-care consumers.
The only shampoo that received a good review in this line was the True Confidence Anti-Dandruff 2-in-1 Shampoo & Conditioner. All of the conditioners and styling products in this line received good reviews.
Clairol Herbal Essences Products
What’s good about this line: The conditioners, though astoundingly repetitive have merit for normal to dry hair of any thickness; most of the styling products perform well, though few offer the degree of hold advertised.
What’s not so good about it: The strong sense of redundancy across product lines and types; almost all fo the shampoos contain sodium lauryl sulfate as one of the main detergent cleaning agents; the Herbal Essences line has an overwhelming fragrance, several of the styling products flake.
Once again, none of the shampoos received a good review. With the exclusion of the Leave-In conditoner all of the conditioners received good reviews. Due to flaking problems, Herbal Essences hairspray in flexible hold, maximum hold and extra hold also received poor reviews. All of the other styling products got the thumbs up.
Looks like it’s a good time to stock up on conditioner and styling products!
Can you do a review of which shampoo’s this article likes? The information you gave us was great! Thanks.
Evelyn-Unfortunatley ALL of the shampoos from each of these lines received poor reviews. Time to stock up on conditoners and styling products!
