Did you know that Staples is a great place to shop for all your favorite tech gifts for the holiday season? Staples even carries the popular Kindle in-store with a cool interactive display where you can try out the product and see if you like it! In honor of the season, Staples and Twittermoms are asking to share 5 helpful tips for holiday tech shopping.
1. Read product reviews. These are written for a reason. I’m not saying that you should follow what everybody says like the old saying of, “If someone said to jump off a bridge, would you?” Check what everyone is saying and usually the reviews will point out what people like or dislike about the products. Make sure the site you are reading is reputable. Visit a couple of sites.
2. Shop when the product is on sale. If the product isn’t going on sale, try to purchase around peak buying points such as Black Friday or Cyber Monday. If you missed those dates or the item wasn’t on sale, check sale ads or combine with coupons for the stores. Search online for deals as well. Amazon is a great place that offers reviews and free shipping which may be worth it in itself.
3. Don’t make it an impulse buy. Think before you buy. Test the product in the store, ask questions to the customer service reps and then go home. Sit on it at least overnight if not for weeks and decide if you really need the product or not.
4. Play devil’s advocate with the stores. If one store offers the item cheaper, let the first store know to see if they will beat that price. If stores want your business bad enough, they will honor this. Make sure to speak to a manager.
5. Consider warranties before you purchase. Are the warranties worth purchasing or does your item come with one? Keep your receipts. If the item goes on sale and it’s been less than 30 days, many stores will honor the new price if you just bring the receipt to the store. There may also be a rebate that pops up.
So, what are some tips you have for tech shopping? I hope these tips help you. The best tip of all that I can provide, is to do your own research. Become knowledgable about the product. Make sure it is a need over a want unless you have the means for the want.
