I have a little monkey on my hands. My son is 8 months and is a maniac already. He has been for months. He has been crawling for months and for a few weeks has started climbing the stairs. This is so hard on a mommy that has two other kids. I am constantly chasing him and stopping him from going up the stairs. We have one wooden gate and one plastic gate. Neither one works very well on the stairs going upstairs from our basement. So, I am so excited to bring you this review from Dream Baby and happy to discuss their Retractable Gate. (I’m already a fan of their outlet covers!)
A problem I have with these gates we do have is that it is hard to easily open the gates without having two hands. Having two hands with two babies and a toddler free is completely impossible. With the Dream Baby Retractable Gate, I can easily open the gate with one hand while being able to hold my son in the other (after I unlock the gate obviously). The best part of the Dream Baby Retractable Gate is that it “stores” and is hidden so that my other children don’t trip over it when it’s not in use. It’s not an eyesore either! The only negative I have is that I hate to screw into my baseboards or stair railing. So, I can only use this gate when I am able to use along the wall or on the frame since my husband can patch those little holes.
Here are the specifications:
• Fits narrow to wider openings up to 55”/140cm • Suitable for doorways, hallways & stairs • Sturdy and durable mesh • Retracts out of the way when not in use • Space efficient • No tripping hazard • Fittings & mounting template included for easy installation • Use for indoors and outdoors • Two sets of mounting brackets included for convenient relocation • UV protected • Spacers are required when fitting gate to baseboard/skirting boards (sold separately)
Here is how to install the Dream Baby Retractable Gate which gives you a great idea of how it works:
The Dream Baby Retractable Gate is about $81 on Amazon right now, which is about the price of quality gates that I have found. It is definitely worth not letting something happen to your children!
