Why not put a diaper bag or basket together as a baby shower gift? It is one of my favorite things to do for showers. Whole Foods offers a great resource of natural products that you can put in a diaper bag for new moms (or any mom for that matter). There are many eco-friendly alternatives that work just as well as the conventional pieces.
Items to put in the diaper bag:
Diapers- Try latex-free and dye-free instead of chlorine, artificial scents. Try Seventh Generation
Baby Wipes- Try hypo-allergenic, aloe vera, vitamin E, refillable tubs instead of chlorine bleached, petroleum-derived ingredients and artificial scents. Try Seventh Generation
Infant Formula (if breastfeeding isn’t an option)- Try organic, age-appropriate formula instead of artificial additives, colors & flavors
Bottles- Try glass bottles instead of BPA plastic
Baby Cereal & Teething Biscuits- Try organic whole grains instead of artificial additives
Baby Food- Try organic, nutrient rich food instead of artificial additives and junk food. Try Earth’s Best Organics.
Teething- Try homeopathic remedies: certain herbs & herbal teas such as Hylands instead of medications with artificial ingredients or potential side effects; herbs & herbal teas not recommended by a practitioner. I personally like Hyland’s Teething Tablets for my children.
Cotton balls & swabs- Try organic instead of chlorine bleached
Baby Shampoos, Washes and Creams- Use organic shampoos and creams with no fragrance. Try California Baby and Peter Rabbic Organics
Food for Mom- Try nutritious foods instead of junk food. The Bellybar products are awesome and delicious!
Most of the products can be found at Whole Foods with their Whole Baby section, but it may vary by location. See what other products they offer HERE.
While you’re visiting their site, check out the baby photo contest. Right now, Whole Foods is hosting a baby’s favorite food photo contest. Their site says, upload a picture of your little one enjoying his or her favorite mealtime bite to your Flickr account and add it to the Whole Foods Market “Baby’s Favorite Foods” group for a chance to win a Whole Foods Market gift card, Whole Baby gift basket or a Canon Powershot digital ELPH camera.
I’d like to suggest using cloth diapers in stead of disposable
