From WABA, the creators of the award winning rod & connector building toy Superstructs, comes a similar, yet very different toy called Ark-a-Teks. Using the same style building system, Ark-a-Teks sets which contain 40-42 connector pieces (no rods) simultaneously build two characters. Each Arc-a-Tek set comes with easy to follow instructions and a character card which tells the name and type of the character along with information about them such as their favorite modern aircraft or favorite wonder of the world. Also included is an online code which will unlock building instructions for a new character. Unlock a character from each of the three sets to reveal two more characters and ultimately, the final character, Zig-Zag
Ark-a-Teks were designed for ages 3 and up. Each set (Earth, Sea, and Sky) retails for around $10.
We love Superstructs so it was no surprise how much Jackson enjoys playing with Arc-a-Teks. Personally, I like that these sets come in small buckets so there is no need for a special storage container. There are plenty of pieces yet not too many that it’s overwhelming. While each set can be used with another, we haven’t used them that way (yet). Jackson is 3 so I prefer to keep things simple. I did show him the website though and we entered the codes from our Sky set so that we could get the building directions for Falconi. I’m amazed and the building skills Jackson has developed with these toys. He is able to look at the directions and make the creatures on his own. He was so proud of himself the other day that he asked me to take a picture of him with his creations- too bad I wasn’t able to get one with is face actually in the picture! Having the codes adds an extra element of fun to an already awesome toy.
