Today’s Tip from The Green Year: 365 Small Things You Can Do to Make a Big Difference: Check the pressure on your car’s tires.
“Correct tire inflation will increase gas mileage and extend the life of your tires. As a bonus, it will improve your vehicle’s handling performance.
To find out how many PSI (pounds per square inch) the manufacturer recommends for your car, check the owner’s manual or the inflation sticker found in the driver’s doorjamb.
It’s best to check your tires when they’re cold, but if you don’t have an air-pressure gauge, take your car to a gas station and use the gage on it’s air pump. (Let the car sit so your tires can cool down.) While you’re there, add air to any under-inflated tires. (make sure your tires are inflated with air; some newer models are inflated with nitrogen. Be careful not to over inflate.”
