Here are some great tips to cut your grocery bill:
–Make your grocery list before leaving the house; this avoids buying more than you need and impulse purchases.
–Save-A-Lot offers meal plan ideas that feed a family of four for $5.00 or less and are included in the store circulars. Find the meal plan ideas here. These products can be added to your grocery list, saving time and the hassle of planning your family meals.
–Opt for chicken over beef as your staple protein. The price of chicken is less than comparably-sized cuts of beef.
–Shop private labels (store brand) instead of national brands. Save-A-Lot is seeing a huge jump in private labels sales. In fact, some 64 percent of shoppers in 2008 said they often or always buy a store brand rather than a national one, according to the Food Marketing Institute, an industry trade group. That’s up from 59 percent the prior year. Plus, these store brand items taste the same, if not better, than their national brand counterparts.
–Fresh fruits and vegetables cost less when they are in season. Spring fruits include: strawberries, watermelon, apricots, cherries, blueberries, pineapples. And for veggies, carrots, zucchini, avocados, corn, asparagus, spinach, peas and onions are currently in season.
